250 makeup artist, hair stylist and manicurist interviews, conducted.
Six pairs of legs, about to collapse.
Although it's hard to choose favorites when you see the blood, sweat and tears that go into creating every look at Fashion Week, now that the whole shebang is over, Team Backstage Beauty is reflecting on the hair and makeup looks that really inspired us. We'll be talking about the Fall 2010 beauty trends for months to come, but here are our initial thoughts.
Grace Gold: The tousled bed hair and smoky eyes inspired by Bridget Bardot and Catherine Deneuve at Vera Wang was my favorite look of the week - it's the kind of effortless glamour every woman wants. And the most fun beauty look I saw was at L.A.M.B. - it was like a rock 'n roll take on Bettie Page, with smoldering smoky eyes, vibrant red lips and a playfully sexy blunt bang. Just like founder Gwen Stefani, the whole vibe was just too cool!
Gillian Keonig: The hair at Suno and Gray Graham - two lines I probably knew the least about prior to Fashion Week- literally blew me away. Odile Gilbert's very vertical take on giraffe-like hair and necks for the girls at Suno, was truly other-worldly, while Privé stylist Pete Lennon constructed an equally awe-inspiring updo Gary Graham's alien-influenced collection-think an extreme stretched-out, blown-back take on a classic French twist.
Courtney Dunlop: I love the look of flushed cheeks but there wasn't much blush going on this year -- cheeks were "tawny" or "naturally contoured." So I fell in love with the sweet berry-stained cheeks (and lips!) at Caroline Seikaly, which makeup artist Talia Shobrook said were meant to make the models look like "girls going into the woods." Love that!

Dana Oliver: My favorite hairstyle from Fashion Week were the fishtail braids Redken's Rudi Lewis created for Adam Fall 2010. Lewis took the braided 'do up a few notches by adding a textured Mohawk. I also loved the wispy flyaways that floated around, giving it an effortless touch that I'm definitely mimicking this spring!
Lindsey Schickner: So many of the shows I covered had really simple beauty, with stick straight hair and a fresh-faced, natural makeup look, so I really loved Douglas Hannant because the beauty look was so different and dramatic. The hair and makeup was very futuristic, with lots of room for creativity (so refreshing in a sea of bare-aced. I loved watching Romero Jennings play with the shades of green as he painted eyeshadow on the models. And hair was just as creative and interesting as Edward Tricomi painted the models hair with different color chalk. Instead of a very subtle beauty look (like I had been seeing consistently at the other shows), the makeup was so striking and really complemented the clothes to give them even more life on the runway.

Laura Kenney: I'm in love with Tom Pecheux's gorgeous blue jean eyes for Derek Lam' "Myth of the West" collection. He tempered the navy and true blue shadows with a gorgeous slash on copper beneath the eyes and on the lips. And the casually messy hair by Orlando Pita was fab too, and falls into my theory that come Fall 2010, we will all morph into Kate Moss. Also, I'm running to the nail salon tonight to rock CND's moon (literally!) manicure at Ruffian. Love it!
