Stila One Step Makeup - I Tried It!

I don't usually wear any type of foundation but lately I've been going through a phase where I just want to cover up my face. However, I'm lazy about makeup and can't be bothered with a million steps.

I decided to try the new Stila One Step Makeup during fashion week because I: A) wanted to look good, B) didn't have time in the early morn (backstage beauty interviews start at 7:30 am!) for a long makeup routine and C) needed to find foundation that would last all day.

This little number promised to be a primer, foundation, concealer and powder in one. What?! That's crazy talk.

According to Stila the formula includes silicone (that's the primer part), mineral pigments (for foundation), is buildable (to spot cover as a concealer) and has a matte finish (takes care of powder).

I must admit, it delivers. I expected a thick, messy paste but instead One Step has a light, mousse-y texture. I used it all over my entire face, even as an under-eye concealer, and my skin looked nice and even.

Since I never wear powder the coverage was a bit more matte than I'm used to but "velvety" skin was everywhere backstage for Fall 2010 and it looked really pretty, so I'm game to give it a try.

Also important to note -- it lasted...and then some.

It didn't budge all day and I had to use an oil-based makeup remover to take it off. (Don't think of that as an imposition on your skincare routine. Any makeup artist will tell you that the best long-wearing makeup formulas have to be taken off with an oil-based remover. It's just the nature of the beast.)

My grade? A. And now that my face is settled it's on to statement lips!

Hardly anyone pays $44.00 for a foundation - and anyone who does, is crazy. This writer ( C. Dunlop ) is NoT the person of experience to listen to, either - - she's obviously lazy about taking care of her skin. . .the largest organ of her body. Not a single word about sunscreen- - - I'm sure I won't be around to see her when she's my age but you can check out facebook and see what almost 70 looks like with 40 years of Mary Kay. Doing the right thing will always pay. . .neglect will cost.

I use Merle Norman which is expensive, but it lasts all day and I use about an 8th of the cheaper brands I use to use (not 44.00 but I think it is 25 ish). If you also account for cost of the powder and the consealer you are not that much more expensive than using all three products in a cheaper brand. Plus in my job contract it states I have to have styled hair and appropriate makeup so I am able to write it off as part of my uniform expense. Also if it doesn't make my face break out I would spend the extra money to have it! If you apply your makeup with a brush it also goes on smoother and you use less, just a tip.

It's so hard to get the perfect shade ...I rather use no face make up .
And I buy no fancy creams or soaps ...plain cheap soap and water works just as good .

I totally agree w/ cuttinuplady....when will manufacturers and retailers get it? Is it better to sell 5 bottles at $50 each or 500 bottles at $5 each...this is simple Retail 101. Most women want to look better for themselves but can't even try the majority of products on the market today because of high prices. I don't appreciate the "free" offers either...those who say it's free for a one month supply but it takes three months to notice results so they require a credit card in order to bill you for on-going shipments. Makes no sense to me and of course, I refuse to fall for these gimmicks. Just price them so more can and WILL buy. It ain't rocket science people.

I never liked powders.....but I love my bare minerals...it last and looks so natural and doesn't clog pores. Face has cleared up since I starting using it...

You women are TOTALLY missing the point. Okay, so she didn't mention the sunblock, (I am the biggest advocate for sunblock.....having had skin cancer 4 times my self, I would not leave the house without it). That does not mean that she didn't say don't wear it. And it needs to be one that is separate from in your foundation. Sunblock in your foundation is never enough. As far as price goes, I used to work at Saks Fifth Avenue, and if you think $44.00 is high for foundation, you guys are off your rockers. Women all over the United States pay far higher prices for less every single day of the year. I was selling a one ounce serum (I won't mention the name of the product here) that retails for $500.00, and yes, women bought it all the time. Look at products such as La Mer, La Prairie, SKII, Cle de Peau, Sisley, Chanel, etc. The average price for a mere lipstick in these lines is more that $30 (and more!). Is it right? No. But that 's just the way it is......

SINCE DISCOVERING "BARE MINERALS" IN 2006, I WOULDN'T PUT ANYTHING ELSE ON MY FACE. IT COVERS ANY FLAWS THAT MIGHT BE ON YOU FACE. YOU USE A BRUSH AND CONTINUE TO BRUSH, BRUSH AND BRUSH SOME MORE UNTIL YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TOUCH. I HAVE HAD PEOPLE ASK ME "DID YOU GO TO ONE OF THOSE PLACES TO HAVE A FACIAL AND PUT YOUR MAKEUP ON?" NO I DO IT MYSELF. WHEN I FIRST STARTED IT WOULD TAKE ME CLOSE TO ONE HOUR, NOW I CAN HAVE IT SLAPPED ON IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES AND WHEN I GET THROUGH I LOOK LIKE I JUST STEPPED OUT OF A MAKE UP SESSION, THAT COSTS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS.
I WILL NEVER USE ANYTHING ELSE.

I use Bare Minerals and I'm happy with it - for the products that I use, it about $50 every three to six months. I don't wear it everyday, because there are days that I don't feel like having anything on my face other than moisturizer, spf 15.

Ditto to Bare Minerals. It is the best foundation out there and I've tried 'em all. It's natural, gives you great coverage and is quick and easy to brush on. After using Bare Minerals, the liquid and creme foundations feel like bacon grease on your face. I love the stuff! Not too crazy about "Warmth" as a blusher, though. "GLee", however, is perfect.
