Narciso Rodriguez on Living the Dream, Jeff Goldblum's Spring Cleaning Obsession
Narciso Rodriguez is having the time of his life.
Fresh off of showing his Fall 2010 collection at New York's Fashion Week earlier this month, the designer was honored with one of the USA Network's Character Approved Awards on Feb. 25 for helping shape American culture.
Though he regularly dresses first lady Michelle Obama and actress Julianna Margulies, Rodriguez is quite modest about his accomplishments. "I'm enjoying my work and living my dream," he told StyleList. "I always wanted to be a designer, and I've been able to make a business of it and have a good life."
His other recent success is the wildly successful Narciso Rodriguez for eBay collection.
"There's been a really great reaction to it," he shared, adding that he was particularly thrilled to randomly see someone dressed in the collection. "I went to a house party and saw a girl wearing the red scoop-neck dress. I was very excited. It was great that there was such a good reaction, and then to see it on someone was all the sweeter."
"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" co-stars Jeff Goldblum and Saffron Burrows were also at the event, and Goldblum admitted he has nothing regrettable in his closet. "I realized, early on, that I was intoxicated by and exhilarated by getting rid of things," he told StyleList.
"I spring clean all the time. If I had a second career, I would help people by going into their closets. When I get rid of things, I feel opened up and available in a grand way."
Burrows, in a supermini Hervé Léger dress, is taking her wardrobe in a more classic direction, despite evidence to the contrary. Of her dress, she told StyleList, "It's alarmingly short, but I've decided to go with it. I'll just have to stand up all evening."
But when shopping for nonparty clothes, "I do find that my personal wardrobe veers towards the character I'm playing. I have enthusiasm for a T-shirt or jeans, especially playing a cop [on "Law & Order"], and I'm mad about Zara and the high street stuff," she added. "Classical is the way to go."
