Word to the wise: If you ever score an invite to Paris' Elysée Palace, wear flats.
We previously reported on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's shoe snafu as she climbed the French palace's steps, causing her to lose her kitten heel and fall into the arms of President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Well, Sarky might want to install a handrail (or, say, a landing pad) after not one but two women -- French singer Mylene Farmer, and the wife of GDF Suez president Jean-Francois Cirelli -- tripped on the famed French palace's carpeted steps at last night's state dinner for Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
(Quick, quick -- what's French for "See ya next fall!"?)
While glamorous First Lady Carla Bruni looked on in a floor-length Roland Mouret teal gown, her klutzy, heel-wearing guests suffered embarrassing stumbles. Quelle Horreur!
So, what gives? Are French women not nearly as chic as we imagined? Is the palace a death trap? Or has pint-sized Sarkozy rigged the place in an effort to make his guests appear shorter than he is?
