If you're Mary Gleason, president of Judith Leiber, it makes perfect sense. As such, the exec plans to expand Leiber's product categories in a grand way by launching costume jewelry, fragrance and more.
"As we re-envision this iconic favorite for the next generation of luxury consumers, we anticipate more partnerships and possibilities in the next year," Gleason said in a release. "Our new direction has a modern appeal with a nod to Judith Leiber's extraordinary legacy."
The costume jewelry is through a partnership with Weingeroff Enterprises -- the company that produces Jay Strongwater baubles -- and will be available for Fall/Holiday 2010; the fragrance, which will follow shortly thereafter, is being handled by Palm Beach Beaute.
A newly expanded fall handbag collection, designed by Amis Garrigue, features slightly larger silhouettes that still work for evening, as well as for day.
Prices for the expanded collection will range from $995 to $1,995.
Next up for Judith Leiber? Why shoes, of course, they're on the drawing board for 2011.
In the meantime, the company is working furiously to get its bags in the hands of those walking the red carpet at the 2010 Oscars.
Judith Leiber clutches were carried by Amy Poehler, Glenn Close, Rose Byrne, Olivia Wilde, Jessica Lange, Dianna Agron, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kristen Bell, Calista Flockhart, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Garner and more at this year's Golden Globes, so chances are pretty high that Leiber will be a red carpet must-have at Sunday's award show.
