Taylor Swift Talks Heartbreak, Straightens Hair in Elle Magazine

While we rarely see Taylor Swift without her good girl makeup and signature blonde ringlets, she's showing us a different, some might say sexier, side in the April issue of Elle.

The 20-year-old multiple Grammy winner, who just scored five Academy of Country Music Awards nominations, dazzles on the cover of the magazine in a silver sequined Michael Kors dress, while a hardly recognizable Swift poses for the inside spread with straightened locks, blunt bangs and a high fashion attitude courtesy of a Fendi shift and Stella McCartney scallop-hem chemise.

In addition to revealing the edgier hairstyle, which she also sported last December, Swift opens up about who she thinks is hot, "Um, well... Taylor Lautner," she says, and writing songs about her past and current relationships.

"I like to categorize the various levels of heartbreak," she says of her love songs. "I've only had that happen once. A letdown is worth a few songs. A heartbreak is worth a few albums."

As for the reporters and paparazzi lurking in the shadows to watch Swift fall from grace, perhaps they shouldn't hold their breath.

"I've had countless opportunities to do some really bad things. And then people start combing through everything I do trying to find the next mistake and misperception, which leads to more scrutiny," she says.

"Like, if I go to a bar, even if I'm not drinking, who's to say that a source isn't going to say that I was doing something I shouldn't have been doing? So it's not only about your own moral compass, but the moral compasses of other people that you don't know."

Different look, same ol' level-headed Swift.

To read more excerpts from her interview, head over to Elle.com. And pic up the April issue, out on newsstands March 24th.

So, do you prefer the country pop phenom with straight hair or curly hair?

And for tips on getting your hair perfectly straight like Swift's, watch the video below and visit our Hair Basics section for more helpful hair hints.

Taylor Swift has had straight hair before. When her parents were shopping her demos around Nashville when she was 13/14 years old, all the CD art had her with straight hair.

It would have made a lot more sense to show the curly-haired woman blowdrying her own hair. I can't stand videos that show a stylist doing the work, and saying, Yeah, you can do this at home. No, you can't.

She looks like most girls/women do who normally have curly hair, and suddenly straighten it out.. Like a wet rat. Except this one is an overexposed, overrated, UNDERTALENTED singer/performer. Her stage presence when she's singing is identical to a mannequin, but I think the mannequin's have more personality. She's a waste. Like Garth Brooks said a few years ago. "Anyone with a twang and a guitar is getting a Country music recording contract these days. " SO true. There are several bands out there that are nothing more than glorified bar bands. She's an average Kareoke singer. Definitely not worthy of the constant praise being heaped on her.

She's already proven to us that her "talent" is a complete fraud. I don't care how many stupid awards she won. She has a tin ear and bad pitch. In the music industry, there are enough electronic gadgets to make a baboon sound good. Now, she straightens her hair and it makes headlines? If this makes any difference to you, you really need to go out and get a life of your own.

The fact that you take the time to read this, then get yourself into a jealous enough frenzy to spew your anger about a beautiful and sucessful woman is real proof of who needs to get a life!

With her straight hair she looks like Avril Lavigne on Heroin. Bad look for her!! I liked her glammed up look with the curls alot better! She should stick with that since her looks are the only thing she has going for her!!

I fianlly start ot like her and think she's truly the one to not sell out and all of a sudden the entertainment industry has to turn her into a sluttly skank. I guess it's sort of hot, but can't they just leave her alone. It was her wholesomeness that attracted her fans in the first place. Pretty soon there won't be one single positive role model for young girls left. There's nothing wrong with being and looking like a nice girl.

I like her classy curls style, she has a wholesome image. But an occassional change of style for her will work too. Most women change their style sometimes just to show we can be interesting/playful/sensual. She looks very 60's retro in this pic, she should have hon hippie style clothes like Cher used to wear to complete the look. I think she is a cute girl whatever she wears and agree that she should not sell out to the slutty look just to gain popularity. She is so young, tall and lanky. I hope nobody criticizes her when she starts gaining some weight and transforms into a more mature womanly figure like they do with Jessica Simpson. She doesn't have a perfect voice, but works hard and writes most of her songs and performs well, which makes a great package. I have enjoyed watching her succeed.
