Glamour: The DOs and DON'Ts of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

As any fashion-forward gal can tell you, walking the fine line between "totally trendy" and "much too much" can be tough. Put your best foot forward this spring by brushing up on these simple style rules.

http://xml.channel.aol.com/xmlpublisher/fetch.v2.xml?option=expand_relative_urls&dataUrlNodes=uiConfig,feedConfig,entry&id=851655&pid=851654&uts=1269463489

DOs and DON'Ts of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends
Glamour magazine presents a simple style guide for the spring 2010 fashion trends.

Phil Walter, Getty Images

Glamour: The DOs and DONTs of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

DO go head-to-toe indigo

From chambray button-downs to embellished skinny jeans, denim-inspired stuff has never looked so good! Try a navy blazer and jeans for a pulled-together look, but DON'T go denim-on-denim-unless you've got a Ph.D. from Pantone, the colors will be too hard to match up.

Ralph Lauren, Spring 2010

Glamour: The DOs and DONTs of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

DO try out the new nude trend.

Spring's nude trend is all about wearing light pinks, beige and caramel colors-not about wearing your flesh-color shapewear tank as a going-out top. (Spanx should be felt, not seen!)

Thakoon, Spring 2010

Glamour: The DOs and DONTs of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

DON'T forgot to keep things simple when wearing a feather skirt.

Hellooo, gorgeous! Ten bucks says you'll hear that greeting every time you walk into a room with a kicky little number like this on. When wearing a plume-accented skirt,

DO skip headbands or dangly earrings-one party-friendly item is all you need.

ADAM, Spring 2010

Glamour: The DOs and DONTs of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

DON'T shelf the sparkly tops in the "for the fancy parties I go to once or twice a year" section of your closet.

Throw on a cardigan and wear one with a pair of basic shorts to make your Saturday-afternoon outfit a little more glam.

Prada, Spring 2010

Glamour: The DOs and DONTs of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

DON'T overdo the novelty-print thing.

We like to smile as much as the next person (more, actually), but wearing a cutesy novelty print-like polka dots, shooting stars or Miu Miu's kitten print-from head to toe gets into crazy cat-lady territory, fast.

Miu Miu, Spring 2010

Glamour: The DOs and DONTs of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

DO make tie-dye look sophisticated with non-boho accessories.

DON'T wear yours with Birkenstocks, friendship bracelets and denim cutoffs unless you're a camp counselor-or don't mind being mistaken for one. Instead, tone down the feel-good print's hippie vibe with a serious-looking accessory like a structured belt or oxford shoes.

Blumarine, spring 2010

Glamour: The DOs and DONTs of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

DO liven up your wardrobe with a high-impact pattern.

Bright florals are always hip, but this year's batch is especially bold. Just DON'T OD on the fierce factor with other wild accessories. Keep it simple by skipping the jewelry and wearing with chic black shoes.

DKNY, Spring 2010

Glamour: The DOs and DONTs of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

DO have a sense of adventure this season.

Go ahead and test-drive spring's safari-inspired pieces. But when you're wearing the tailored stuff out on the town, DON'T bring the binoculars, canteen and compass-save it for that family camping trip you keep trying to put off.

Alexander Wang, Spring 2010

Glamour: The DOs and DONTs of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends

DON'T stash those silver and gold pieces until date night!

Go ahead and wear 'em during the day: Spring's metallic skirts, shoes and blazers are dressy enough to spiff up basic tees and jeans-but tailored enough to keep you from looking like you're on the Walk of Shame.

Burberry, Spring 2010

I love Glamour. I love that there are people out there, like Glamour, trying to reverse this sickening anorexic/bulimic, emaciated, rail-thin, 6 feet tall and 105 pounds look.

HOWEVER, I don't understand why Glamour and others hopping on their bandwagon, feel the need to go to the "opposite extreme" with their models.

Don't get me wrong. I think that some people have a problem with high metabolisms or whatever, and they can't help looking skinny/underweight when they're trying to be healthy. Likewise, some people can't help having some extra pounds/curves even when they try to eat healthily and exercise.

What I don't understand..... is WHY the fashion industry and the magazines can't simply depict women of the IN-BETWEEN (i.e. HEALTHY) size??? Underweight is unhealthy, overweight is unhealthy, so why not show women that are in-between???

I know I am short in height - 5 ft. 3 in., but my weight is healthy. 112 lb. Some of that weight is from muscle! A nearly 6 foot model should not weigh the same as I do.

I am also peeved by people who are saying that "the average woman is a size 10" or "the average woman is a size 14." Or whatever. The average means to take ALL WOMEN - the underweight, the normal weight, and the overweight, and then group them all together, and divide the weights by the total number of weights, then you have an average weight. Well, that number, unfortunately, is SKEWED by the vast number of overweight and obese women. It may be "average" or it may be more "normal" for women to be overweight or obese, but I have to admit that although women of those sizes want to see models in those sizes.... I do not think those should be the "normal" sizes depicted. I'm not saying they shouldn't be shown at all, I'm saying that more HEALTHY (not underweight, not overweight) should be what is "normal" to be shown in magazines.

We should be advertising HEALTHY sizes (weights proportionate to height), not underweight or overweight.

I couldn't agree more! Anorexic thinness is not fashionable, it's sick--and the opposite is true as well. I don't think people should accept obesity (euphemistically referred to in "plus size" terms) should be accepted as the "new normal." I want to see healthy-looking models, and I want the fashion industry to show me something to aspire to!

GOOD GRIEF! Women should do what they want, wear what they want and people need to mind their own business. If you don't like it, TOUGH. All this "fashion" stuff is about SELLING you STUFF you probably don't need, and at exhorbitant prices.

that "fashion" stuff is not very attractive for me, your average American male-type...
and the poor models! Most look like they were recently released from a
TB ward! The girl with the denim jeans and jacket looks the best to me, even if the colors
don't quite match, still lots better than the undershirt with the frizzy stuff sewed along the bottom!

Why do all these girls look so pale and skinny as a rail? Since when are stick figures sexy and hott? Whoever tells these girls to get that skinny has issues! They are beautiful but as pale and skinny as they are...they look like the walking dead...sorry

Pale, if that's your natural coloring, is healthier than a tan. A tan is simply a sign of sun damage to the skin. And remeber these girls are under bright stage lights that will wash them out.

If you're naturally dark or tan, that's beautiful too, but there's nothing wrong with pale.

Half the fashions in this article are pretty awful, though a few of the pieces have potential. I prefer to ignore trends and only worry about what looks good on my body. That way my clothes are good for more than a season.

I alm normally thin, due to my thyroid condition, my weight bounces from 118 to 122. Im 60 years old and would love to find size 3 ladies jeans, that come to my waist. I hate wearing these jeans from the junior section that are below your navel. I think the producers of clothing should keep that in mind.

Diane....a size 3 IS a Junior (teen) size. You will most likely only find low rise, and way too trendy jeans in jr sizes, not suited for an adult. You need misses sizes...look for a size 4 or a 2. When i weighed 110 pounds at 6 feet tall....i was a perfect size 4 or 6....how are you gettting in to size 3 jeans at that weight anyway?
Try Chicos or Coldwater Creek their sizes run in a smaller cut. Good Luck !

I hear ya Diana! I have the same problem. If I shop for jeans in the Juniors or even Misses dept, I might find my size, but the pants end up being too short because I have long legs. You just have to keep hunting around until you do find something you like that fits - and once you do, buy a couple of pairs at one time because God only knows when you'll ever find them again! lol Most of the time I have to take my clothes to a seamstress to be altered to fit me properly. Petite/Small sizes usually fit well in all areas except in the arm length and leg length. Oh, well. I'm 5.4 and weigh 104 lbs - finding a size "0" or a "2" in something that I like such as Liz Claiborne's classics is even more difficult since her clothes usually start out from a size 4-6. It sucks, but I guess that's just how it is these days. Also, I have found some clothes sizes to be a "false" size, like finding a size 2, but it's a lot bigger than any size 2 I have ever bought before. Weird. I can never order clothes from a cataloge because of this. Especially Victoria's Secret. I almost always end up sending it back.

Ladies,

Do as you please....this is what the American way seems to project -- listen to talking heads, magazines, and celebrities....think for yourself, take your own opinion with high regard and respect your taste.

How about something easy to dress in:such as a dress or skirt for a change, instead of menswear. Be proud to be a woman and dress feminine style; something seriously lacking in our anti-Western culture, the last 60 socialistic, unconstitutional years .Ditch the pants, especially the most masculine " blue jeans " as if every day you were either horseback riding or gardening every day.
