What 35 Looks Like: We Compare Three Celebs

What does 35 look like?

A few wrinkles? A little sun damage?

Does it look like Kate Gosselin? Fergie? Eva Longoria? It may be hard to believe they're the same age, but all three stars celebrate their 35th birthday this month.

We asked a personal trainer, an image expert, and a plastic surgeon to weigh in on what caused each of these three women to look older or younger for her age.

KATE GOSSELIN

The Plastic Surgeon Says: "Kate has more wrinkles, and her skin is not quite as smooth as either Fergie's or Eva's," says Dr. Anthony Youn, M.D., a facial plastic surgeon. "While I'm sure Kate is by no means poor, she probably doesn't have the money or the time (due to having to care for so many kids on her own!) to undergo skin rejuvenating treatments like Fergie and Eva likely do," says Dr. Youn.

And then there are the obvious physical effects pregnancy has on the body. "Kate's weight has roller-coastered as a result of having so many children, causing her to have more stretched out skin than either Fergie or Eva," Dr. Youn adds. While Gosselin was lucky enough to have a gratis tummy tuck, she still has areas where the skin is slightly less elastic than before she had children.

The Personal Trainer Says: "Kate began her new 'Dancing with the Stars' regimen and is probably now in the best shape of her life," says Sara Haley, celebrity personal trainer and Reebok Global Instructor. "Nevertheless, eight children and a messy marriage have had its toll on her body, hence the tired eyes, loose skin around the face and neck due to the loss of elasticity and too much tanning."

The Image Expert Says: "Granted, for having eight kids, she looks great," adds Charla Krupp, author of How Not to Look Old and How to Never Look Fat Again. "But stress affects every cell in your body, and taking care of kids leaves you with a lack of energy and less time to put toward your own appearance."

And never underestimate the power of hair and makeup: "Kate's hair is dated, and she wears too much shiny makeup," observes Krupp. "Once you start to get lines and wrinkles, its best to avoid products with shine as they only draw attention to what you're trying to hide, and it's not age-appropriate." Brows are also important: "Kate's brows are weak and too thin -- a natural sign of aging," says Krupp. A fuller brow might have a more youthful effect on her entire face.

Aging Factors: Stress, children, lack of time, lack of money, shiny makeup, dated hair, thin brows

EVA LONGORIA

The Personal Trainer Says: "At age 35, the upper body muscle tone, particularly the triceps and back becomes harder to maintain, cellulite becomes more apparent on the lower half, and unfortunately even the face and neck begin to lose elasticity (giving the appearance of baggy skin)," says Haley. "But Eva Longoria looks like she hasn't aged a day past 30."

"Eva is a former aerobics instructor and has a degree in Kinesiology, so fitness has always been a part of her life," says Haley. "Her anti-aging trick might be nothing other than eating healthy and living an active lifestyle."

The Image Expert Says: "She's very modern-looking," adds Krupp. "She doesn't wear a lot of makeup, which helps her looks younger. Her teeth are very white (probably veneers) which helps promote an overall youthful appearance. She has firm skin, which many stars achieve by using Botox to get rid of wrinkles, along with Restylane and Juvederm to fill in lines around the mouth. The Fraxel laser is also a great way to smooth out skin at the dermatologist... but you can also help your skin look younger with great skincare products, and a good primer," Krupp says.

Aging Factors: None!

FERGIE

The Image Expert Says: "Fergie looks amazing! She has long hair -- that really helps keep you looking younger as you age. Her brows are also very well-defined, which helps pick up her face. She wears light lipstick, which is youthful. And she has nice long lashes, but not a lot of other makeup," Krupp notes.

But Krupp does have one small suggestion: "Fergie wears a middle part, and I think she'd look a little younger with a side part, and maybe some bangs. As women get older, it's a good idea to not show a lot of forehead, because you're getting lines and wrinkles there, so the side-swept bangs help hide that."

The Plastic Surgeon Says: "I would bet the farm that both Fergie and Eva keep their skin youthful by undergoing transformative treatments at their doctors' offices, says Dr. Youn. "Some of the more popular treatments among celebrities are Syneron's Sublative Rejuvenation by eMatrix, in addition to high quality medical-grade skin care products."

So, has Fergie had any nips and tucks? "A little Botox here and there may also be helping her look young," Dr. Youn suspects.

The Personal Trainer Says: "Fergie's body has fluctuated over the years depending on her work and personal life [Fergie is an admitted former Meth user]," says Haley. "She put on weight most recently for her role in the movie "Nine," and then quickly had to take it off again to go back on tour with the Black Eyed Peas, which she accomplished. Plus, dancing on stage all night keeps her body in great shape." Still, Haley believes Fergie is not the youngest-looking for the bunch, noting "Fergie's years of drug use may have furthered along her aging process, leaving her looking closer to 40 than 30."

Aging Factors: Middle part, past drug use

I agree with the assessments of Kate and Fergie, but Eva Longoria looks awful when she's not wearing makeup, so I find it hard to believe that she doesn't wear much.

I agree, when I read the comment that she wore little makeup, I about fell out of my chair. When looking at the photos at the top of the article, she is clearly the most made up of the 3.

Susy, u are so right, I've seen many pic's of Eva w/o makeup & she looks really bad(4 a star anyway!) Sorry Eva, but looks like you've been skipping ur nightly skin routine for a while & been picking @ ur face! I was amazed that someone w/ that much money could look so bad w/o makeup, she can def. afford 2 have procedures done that us normal people can't, but then again maybe she has & they didnt help much? Looked like she had some acne scaring, uneven skin tone & just reg. aging problems like around the eyes, w/o her makeup, I almost didn't recognize her! Good thing 4 the name underneath! Even if she doesn't want anything evasive, there r still things she could do 2 help, esp. the acne scarring(which 2 me made her look much older) & some only take a few days 2 heal...she does have 3 kids though which adds age 2 our faces & bodies faster than the speed of light(mother of 2 here!) so I know from experience! I have 2 say that Fergie looks better, as far as skin tone/firmness & looking closer to 30 than all 3 w/o makeup, even w/ the drug use & don't think the side part is going 2 help that much, long hair helps her look younger(as w/ alot of people, myself included, I would never get my hair cut right now, Im 44, but still looking about 32-34, but a really short cut would probably make me look closer to 50!,...if she cut 2 her shoulders she would probably look over 40, plus would make her face look alot bigger, not flattering @ all w/ her face shape, but the side part would make her face look slimmer(Yes, all take notes from Kate's hack job!lol wasnt long before extensions were in order)...also a lil weight helps fill in the smaller wrinkles. I've seen Fergie w/o makup also & she wears quite a bit 2, esp. on her eyes, which makes her look younger in pic's. I think their all guilty of wearing too much makeup, 4 the camera anyway! Kate being less guilty than the other 2! This article just goes 2 show, doesnt matter how much money u have, u cant fight time & gravity forever, LOL...its gonna catch up w/ u sooner or later, even w/ cosmetic surgery, which sometimes can make u look worse, it's a big gamble w/ ur face esp. so take care of ur face nightly ladies, # 1 lession learned in Cosmetology school!...w/ exception of tummy tuck, which is a must 4 most women (unless ur a freak of nature?) who have multiple babies. Kate's stomach puts mine 2 shame, which looked great after my 1st, which I had @ 24 & the second @ 33, the 2nd didn't go back like the 1st & never will unless I have a tummy tuck, so I believe ur age does matter how well ur body will return 2 normal after birth, so 4 the normal peeps who worry about their body image & cant afford surgery, I would have ur kids earlier!.

*Oh yes & I agree w/ Barbara too, what is Kate even doing here? She's not a star, just a mom who got a reality tv show cuz of a freak accident when more eggs took than usual, not because she has some fantastic talent, unless you include being able to Bitch non stop @ ur ex-husband while taping ur show, feeding, dressing & playing w/ the kids, etc., now thats real talent! LOL..YEA!! I need my own tv show too, I can do the same thing she can & better w/ high heals on & walking backwards when asked!

Totally agree with your comment Susy. Longoria wears a ton of makeup and when she isn't she does look like any other joe schmo walking down the street. This article is so lame and it's probably going to send people flocking to get more nips and tucks, hope Kate doesn't read it. What the heck is wrong with looking 35, the most important thing is eating healthy and feeling good, let the chips fall wear they may. This society is absolutely OBSESSED with never having a wrinkle. I think we have a lot more to be concerned about these days than what this ridiculous article has to say......

Um... yeah. When they posed the question, I looked at the pictures and figured Longoria would be the one who wore too much make up. Thay all wear a lot of makeup and all three look great. But to me, Longorias makeup is the one who looks the most extreme.

I hate to even say this, but they all look older. My sisters, friends and I in our 30's still looked 20 (even after having babies). I'm not sure if it's because their make up makes them look so hard, or it's them. Their bodies are in great shape though.

They are loved ladies, no matter their appearance. They should be valued because they are here and alive.

Your comment sounds SO catty.You and your friends looked younger than them at that age? Please. Unless you have the money and devote all your time to yourself, I find that hard to believe and it just sounds jealous.

'Toot Toot' on Chrystal's comment. If you hated to say it, why DID you. I hear that from women all of the time...'Oh, I look younger than I am'. They need to see themselves through the eyes of others. As mentioned before, being shorter may cause some to initially be guessed younger.

Fergie looks fantastic... weight gain or not! She carries herself very well. She deserves to be commended and praised for overcoming her past addictions... the past is where those demons belong. She's gorgeous! Eva pretty as well and looks every bit of 35 (which is not a bad thing). Kate, however, looks like a piece of shiny leather... which adds at least another 8 years to her looks. I guess her mid-life crisis started a bit earlier that most women.

I don't understand why so many of you have such a problem with Kate Gosselin. My guess is EXTREME jealousy!! She has eight kids to take care of. That takes more than the average job, and she is apparently getting little or help from her totally worthless ex. In the looks department, she may not be a Halle Berry or Angelina Jolie, but she is still VERY attractive. Certainly better looking than both BOTH Fergie and Eva. She's trying people!! Give her a chance!!

WHY OH WHY does everyone assume 1) That women who hate Kate Gosselin are jealous, and 2) That Kate takes care of her own kids? Neither is true--not one bit of it! *I* am a stay at home mom of nine, with six still at home. I make dinner each and every night (and NOTHING comes from a box filled with chemical crap). I homeschool, drive the kids where they need to go, and yes--bake homemade cookies. PLEASE tell me when Kate has done ANY of those things. Oh yeah--she might have baked cookies--but she got nasty with her kids for wanting to help! Why bother if it's just another reason to scream like a shrew?

Hate Kate? Yes. She looks and acts mentally ill, and should never have had children. Jealous? Not on your life! I left a horrendous marriage after 17 years and six kids, met a wonderful man, and had three more children with him. I am NOT out "Dancing With The Stars" or getting tummy tucks. My life is wonderful, my marriage is strong, and my kids are incredible people to have in my life.

Kate deserves all the criticism she gets and more. A shrew and a loser.

I agree with Susy. In this pic Eva looks great, but without makeup she doesn't look so good; even her skin color is different here, much brighter than it is without makeup. Wonder if she's having her skin lightened. Lighter skin=more youthful appearance.
