Wedding Dress Sample Sale Shopping Tips
AP
- You cannot return or exchange a wedding dress purchased at a sample sale. Be sure that the wedding dress you want to purchase is really the dress.
- Before you go to a sample sale, have an idea of what you are looking for: mermaid, beading, short, etc. In addition to searching online wedding gown galleries, make some appointments at bridal salons to try on wedding dresses. You won't know which style will best flatter your figure until you've tried on a variety of dresses.
- While a sample gown is not "used," it will need to be cleaned. These charges can cost $200 and up. Before you leave the salon, ask a saleswoman or the cashier for the name of a good wedding gown cleaner in your area.
- If there's a seamstress at the sale, ask her what can realistically be done to ensure a perfect fit. Sometimes a sample wedding dress will be too big or small or have too many details to be altered to fit you properly. If the salon is not offering alterations, don't forget to ask for the name and number of a recommended seamstress.
- Bring someone with you. You'll need the extra help grabbing dresses from the racks and getting in and out of them. You'll also want their opinions on what looks good and what doesn't.
- Trust your instincts, because if it's the right dress you'll know. If you're not sure, keep looking. You don't want to end up having to sell a sample wedding dress on your own.

You can save hundreds on a wedding dress buying a sample wedding dress. I know someone who brought a top designer gown that retailed for $2300, at a sample sale for $795.
