Want to Grow Out Those Bangs? Here's How

Now that you've got bangs, what do you do? Grow them out, of course! Granted, this is not a process for the patience-challenged, but with a few simple tricks, you can turn those short sprigs into longer, flowing locks again. Here's how:

Even them out. Sometimes bangs can be shorter in the middle and longer on the sides. If you trim them up evenly, you'll be able to do a lot more with them as they get longer. Plus, they won't look so shaggy.

Accessorize! Cute little clips, bows, barrettes and headbands are now your best friends. Stock up on these because you will need them to pull the bangs out of your eyes as they get longer. Just remember to have fun with them. Try new twists, mini braids and other ways to pull the hair off your face.

Blend your bangs into the rest of your hair. As they get longer, be sure your stylist cuts them into your style -- especially if your hair is long. You don't want to end up with two different looks.

Find a good gel. When pulling bangs off your face with clips or a headband, start with a styling pomade to smooth them out first. This will also prevent flyaways and hair falling back onto your face throughout the day.

Try a side part. This is a great way to conceal longer bangs. When your hair is still wet, apply a strong gel to your bangs. Then push them to one side while drying. Finish with some hairspray or styling wax to get them to stay. You can also experiment with a center part and use a pair of fun clips to make the bangs stay put, or use some gel to slick them straight back off the forehead for a hip, no-part look.

Wondering what to do once your bangs are grown out? How about this hot new look?

And if you're looking for a quick and simple way to add length to your fringe, click through the gallery below for celebrity hair stylist Danielle Caputo's step-by-step instructions on how to wear clip-in bangs!

Hair Basics: Clip-in Bang Extensions

Have you been thinking about bangs, but don't want to take the plunge? Clip-in bang extensions can give you a whole new look, and they're super-easy to use. With these tips from celebrity hair stylist Danielle Caputo, you'll have natural looking bangs in no time. Whether they're real or not will be your little secret.

Sebastian Mlynarski for AOL

When you're using human hair, smooth out the bangs before inserting them. First, spritz it with a shine spray, and then go over it with a flat iron on high heat. If you're using synthetic extensions, skip this step as the heat my damage the hair piece.

Sebastian Mlynarski for AOL

All bang extensions come with clips underneath them, which you'll need to pop open before fastening in the hair piece. So bend them to open them up, then you're ready to insert the piece in your hair.

Part hair in the center before snapping in the extension. Fasten the extension by inserting it right at the hairline, grabbing some hair with the clip, and then popping the clips closed with your fingers.

Use your fingers to piece-out the bangs to meld them with your natural hair. Then style your hair to wear it down, pull it back, or put on a head band.

Ennui, you are reading this short blog about growing out bangs on StyleList. What were you expecting? Iraq war coverage? Sound advice on surviving the current economy? Just because you're not interested in it, and just because the well-being of society as a whole doesn't hang in the balance of whether or not this article has any meaning, doesn't mean some people don't actually want to know how to grow out their bangs and are happy to see this advice here.

If you want depth, I'm sure there are plenty of places you can go. Please go to one of them and leave your uncalled-for comments elsewhere.

Agreed. Go complain somewhere else or get a life. I really like the clip in bangs and would love to try them out before I risk cutting my actual hair but I never see these in any of the stores by me and don't want to risk buying them online and having a color that is very different from my hair. Does anyone know of any stores in Central NJ on the Coast that have this? The only thing I ever see are the full clip in hair pieces.

dear jennifer and jeff....what i want you both to do is take a deep breath....feel better?...now go get some cookies, and milk and listen to what i have to say....you are both vacuous morons who need to forget about your bangs and look at yourselves....i would go on, but a wise person once told me that to argue with glopheads like yourselves, is to educate them...class dismissed...now go off....your scrapbooking awaits you.

Ennui, it's people like you that make the rest of the world so miserable. There are actual informative and important articles on Aol, you're just not looking in the right spot. This particular article was intended for the Beauty section. The writer's audience is obviously not going to be similar to the audience of a business/money author. Perhaps it's time you look at yourself, eat a cookie, and leave your crass comments to yourself. (PS-you write like a rebellious teenager with your horrible grammar and annoying use of capslock.)

Yeah right. I'm 50 years old and I'm going to put butterfly barrettes and flower-pins in my hair. I don't think so. Regarding the bangs: Go ahead and buy them online, but get HUMAN HAIR that is close to your own color. Then, take it to the hairdresser ( or do it yourself, if you dye your hair at home ) to match the color exactly. With bangs, if you go a little lighter than your own color or have some mini-highlights pulled through, it's very attractive and can take years off your face.
