Darlings: If you want an achingly hip musical reference to drop casually among your lesser-informed friends, you could do worse than She & Him, the West Coast pop duo featuring Hollywood starlet Zooey Deschanel.

And if you really want to make them jealous, you might want to imply that you were at the Audi Forum on New York City's Park Avenue, taking in their private concert with your buddies, "30 Rock" star Jane Krakowski, models Jessica Hart and Tyson Beckford, and Cobra Starship musicians Gabe Saporta and Ryland Blackinton.

She & Him (Deschanel met her collaborator, Matt Ward, while shooting a film) has the perfect sound for summertime, with irresistible tunes like "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" and "Sweet Darlin'."

The duo were serenading Audi's event to kick off the 2010 New York International Auto Show as scenesters sipped Champagne while standing alongside sleek new models like the R8 Spyder and upcoming 2011 A8.

Adding a little "reality" to the evening were Robyn Berkley from Bravo's hit "Kell on Earth" and Paul Johnson-Calderon from The CW's "High Society," who flounced in looking every inch -- to borrow Ricky Martin's instantly classic phrase -- the "fortunate homosexual man."

"I've been a big fan of She & Him since a friend loaded some of their music on my iPod a year ago," Berkley, who actually is the power fashion publicist she portrays on the show, told StyleList.

And if you're paying attention, gentle reader, that is the flawlessly cool way to explain how you know about any new music: it's been on your iPod for a year.
