L'Occitane Debuts Peony-Inspired Makeup Line

The French beauty brand announced that it would add a peony-inspired makeup line to its popular range of skin and body care products that will roll out to stores worldwide over the next two months, WWD reports.
"[The peony] is a symbol of beauty and femininity in the Mediterranean," said Laure Masson, L'Occitane's U.K. Marketing Manager. The association comes from a legend that a nymph named Peonia was so adored and cherished by the gods that a jealous goddess turned her into a flower with a thousand petals, or a peony.
And the French sure know how to take a dramatic theme and run with it.
L'Occitane consulted peony expert Jean-Luc Rivière, who comes from a rich family history of having cultivated and studied the flower for 160 years. The beautifully illustrated product packets are inspired by seed sachets, with an image of a specific family of peony flower that best captures that product's shade. And the makeup range will include eye, cheek and face colors, as well as bronzer, lip color and gloss.
Expect to see more pretty things from the brand in the future; upcoming makeup lines will also be birthed around floral themes.
While L'Occitane has previously dabbled in color cosmetics in the past, execs hope the new line will draw new customers to the brand, which is best known for its pure organic shea butter balms.
We think it's a safe gamble to take; who doesn't love pretty things?
