According to the results of a survey sponsored by Vichy Laboratoires, 53 percent of women experience drier skin, an increase in wrinkles and more neck sag as they enter and go through menopause. The difference in skin behavior is so great, that 67 percent of women change their skincare routine and purchase new products in an attempt to address their skin's changing needs.
Thanks, mother nature.
So, scientifically speaking, what's happening in our bodies to accelerate our skin's aging during menopause? The drop in estrogen levels causes the inner layers of skin to lose cohesion, which makes for thinner and saggier skin that has trouble retaining hydration.
But there's some good news out there; beauty companies are hot on the trail of finding skincare solutions for women going through their changes. In response to clinical trials and the survey results, Vichy Laboratoires has created a day and night cream formulated to address the irritating dryness and sag most menopausal women complain of.
"We drew our inspiration from our 30 years of research on tissue engineering in creating the Vichy Neovadiol Gf collection to specifically address the needs of women experiencing the effects of hormonal slowdown due to menopause," says Sarah De Joybert, VP of Marketing for Vichy Laboratoires.
The star ingredients? Look for Pro-XylaneT to help regenerate skin cells and Proteic Gf to stimulate cell growth at both the dermis and epidermis levels. The combination of both key ingredients is patented, and Vichy claims the duo will address stubborn dryness, sagging skin and density loss, with palpable results seen after just one month of consistent use.
The Neovadiol Gf Day Cream comes in formulations for both combination and dry skin, and retails for $48. Meanwhile, the night cream contains the bonus ingredient phytodoline, which helps de-puff skin in time for your morning rise, and will cost you $51.
Available at CVS and Duane Reade drugstores across the country, Vichy is actually a European import, and is the best-selling skincare brand in European pharmacies today.
Now who's going to take on those night sweats?
Luckily, someone has taken on gray roots, too.
