If you're gonna spike your hair, why not take it all the way and create a look that resembles a modern-day Elvis? That's what Adam Lambert did on a recent episode of "American Idol" when he appeared as this week's mentor to the remaining nine contestants on the show dedicated to The King.

As the Season 8 runner-up, Lambert is perhaps best remembered for his over-the-top vocals and guy-liner looks that cast him as a rebel to mainstream culture -- and an often-times a controversial one at that.

The 28-year-old from Hollywood who was once referred to as a "worldwide star" by the toughest judge of them all -- Simon Cowell -- appeared last night with a jet-black, high-spiked 'do that made it somewhat hard to stay focused on the contestants he was mentoring. Was his hair a tribute to The King or was it just another one of his many edgy, punk-rock looks? Either way, it caught our attention.

Over the course of his Idol days, Lambert showcased his versatile voice with equally-versatile looks. His hair ranged from blue highlights to sleek, sculpted, smooth, spiky and sometimes downright strange. In an earlier interview with Stylist, he said he loses count of how many styling products it takes to get his hair just-so. "Oh man, I don't even -- I lost count. And I got really overwhelmed too because, like, it's cold and it's hot and it's dry and it's this, and I'm like 'Oh, moisturizer! Oh, hairspray!', he said.

Take a look at some of the looks that Lambert has sported and tell us which one you like the best:

Oh, and if you want to catch more of Lambert, he'll be returning on "American Idol's" result's episode where he will sing one of his new singles. No telling what his hair will look like, but we can pretty-much guarantee the black eye-liner and black nail polish will accompany it.

Adam is completely amazing . . . voice, showmanship, looks, style, personality - he has it all. This is just the beginning.

Hey Dunham....................you could of at least talk about his voice and singing prowess. Also about his great tips to all the Idol contestants. I think his acting as a Mentor really helped them all! I guess you think his hair is more important. You are a moron!

Hey RICK.................. this is STYLIST in case you forgot where you are at. The topic here is FASHION, not singing, so you may want to THINK before you throw the word "moron" around. Eejit.

I don't like most of his songs or his screaming voice, but he sure has conviction and confidence. He had very good comments on the current idols and did a good job. This is a lesson to everyone who wants to make it out there in whatever industry, just perfect your talent, try to be original, be confident and people will follow you.

I really think Adam should have won Americal Idol!! The way the judges praised him so much probably cost him the title!

I liked Adam Lambert best when he was Matt Bellamy, frontman of the band Muse. Then again, since A. Lambert has copied Matt's look, singing style, fashion sense, showmanship, stage lasers AND -- last but not least -- songs, let's just dispense with Lambert altogether and go to a Muse concert!

Adam Lambert is a greasy, brainless clown, and so are 99% of American Idol viewers.

Yeah? And what does that make you for commenting on him. Seriously, quit your Lambert obsession, okay? It's starting to get embarrassing!

You wouldn't know about Adam or any other AI contestant if you didn't watch the show moron. Besides you're probably stuck in the Rush era, uh geddy... please. Are you upset because AI hasn't had a Rush night?

I actually think I like him best when he pulls down some spikey bangs, but still manages to get the rest of his hair vertical. And I am completely in love with the peacock feather inspired highlights he was rocking in Japan. Here's a pic with all of these, I think he looks amazing!

I like Adam too, and thought he did a great job with mentoring the contestants this past week. I like his hair in the right side pic best, though. I also think he should have won Idol, but in a way, it was probably better that he didn't. This way, he's not bogged down with Idol's hokey contract. He still had contractual responsibilities to Idol for the year, but not as stringent as the winner had. And isn't it ironic that Idol chose HIM to mentor and not a past Idol winner? That says volumes. I think A. Idol wanted him to win too. You don't hear much about Kris Allen except to sometimes see him in a Ford car commercial.

I'M A 60 YEAR OLD GRANDMA AN I THINK ADAM IS THE REINCARNATION OF THE GREAT ELVIS !! I THINK IS THE HOTTEST THING SINCE ELVIS.. AND HE CAN ENTERTAIN JUST LIKE E DID...! BUT I WISH HE'D TONE DOWN THE CHICKEN DO... I LIKE THE PICTURE OF HIM ON THE RIGHT . HE LOOOKS ALOT BETTER WITH A MORE NATURAL LOOK THAN THE PUKE ROCKER THING.. ANYWAY I STILL LOVE WATCHING HIM PREFORM....ROCK ON ADAM...

I'm just wondering how a 60 year old grandma writes like a 10 year old boy. If you're going to complain about someone, do it as yourself.
Adam can dress however he likes, he's the best voice of his generation.

Adam was runner-up yet gets treated all-too-often as though he won AI. He didn't win because America didn't vote him #1. I liked him. I liked Kris Allen. I liked others that season too, but I admit that since that season ended, I've liked Lambert less and less until now I think he's disgusting. Heck, the supposed "song" he sang on AI this past week had essentially one line in it. He was so much creative and interesting when on AI but now he's just overglorified gunk.

A lot of the criticism of Adam Lambert is the same as Elvis used to get. And look what happened!! I think he is a fantastic showmam, knows exactly what he is doing and has honed his skill to a T. Of all of the "mentors" they have had on Idol, he is the only one who really had construction suggestions for the kids and the ones who took his advice really sounded great!! Keep on Rock'n Adam. I am 75 years old, I love it.
