Spanish beauty Penélope Cruz is tackling a challenging new role: playing guest editor for the May issue of French Vogue.

"She was very intense and precise about what she wanted," French Vogue associate editor in chief Olivier Lalanne said of Cruz, according to WWD.

The 210-page issue will be available with three different covers, all featuring Cruz.

In one, she cozies up to fellow Oscar winner Meryl Streep; in another, she's seen with rock god Bono, who is shown in profile. But it's the third cover that really has star power: Cruz is joined by Streep, Naomi Watts, Julianne Moore, and Gwyneth Paltrow, all clad in Gap (Product) RED shirts.

WWD also notes that the issue features Cruz's own snapshots of her pregnant pal Salma Hayek, as well as Cruz posing for a pictorial of spring fashions photographed by the inimitable Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

The May issue of French Vogue hits stand this week.

Meanwhile, model-turned French first lady Carla Bruni recently guest edited Madame Figaro.
