'American Idol' Stylist Miles Siggins on the Style Evolution of Ryan Seacrest and Why He Doesn't Dress Simon Cowell

British stylist Miles Siggins has been cultivating the looks of aspiring pop stars on Fox's "American Idol" since the series's second season, when two of his all-time favorite contestants, Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken, vied for the singing competition's coveted title

While the dapper Siggins's work with the sometimes fashion-phobic male contestants gets him plenty of attention, he is also the man responsible for the style evolution of host Ryan Seacrest.

And what a transformation!

Ryan Seacrest

"Pictures of Ryan five years ago and ones today really tell a story," Siggins tells StyleList. "He's gone from a guy who was always wearing T-shirts and spiky hair to a guy always in suits."

These days, Seacrest wears 100 percent Burberry, made to measure from top to bottom, whenever he steps on the "Idol" stage. Siggins has all of Seacrest's shirts and suits flown in from the United Kingdom, and even has extras made in case Seacrest stains his sleeve in ketchup or pops a button before going on air. Both of these mishaps actually happened, Seacrest admitted when he interviewed Siggins for his L.A.-based radio show last year,

Since convincing Seacrest to stick with a suited look -- which he often accents with a skinny tie -- the affable host has never questioned Siggins's style pointers. "A custom suit is one of those things that once you've had it, everything else feels inferior," Siggins tells StyleList. "I'm afraid I've ruined him."

Siggins adds that the transformation from the more casual looks Seacrest sported in earlier seasons was deliberate. "We want a look that's very center stage, which is his role," he says. "He needs to stand out as host and not look like one of the contestants."

Working in fashion since the age of 18 for designer Paul Smith in London, Siggins fancies suits himself and even his 2-year-old son, Alfie, wears them to look like Dad.

While he's often managed to persuade some of the show's male contestants to slip on a suit to give them confidence, Siggins tells StyleList he doesn't outfit judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson. "Do you really think they would let me tell them what to wear?" he laughs.

StyleList ventures that perhaps Siggins would put Cowell in something other than those perpetually tight T-shirts, but he says he would rather break the brutal Brit's baggy jeans habit. (It's also something Siggins has worked on with some of this season's male contestants.)

"Men, in general, need to pay more attention to fit. One of my favorite style tips for men is to always try the next size smaller just to see how something looks," says Siggins. "Guys tend to buy bigger than they are, and something that truly fits your body looks so much better."

Meanwhile, read about the rumors that judge Ellen DeGeneres is demanding a wardrobe allowance.

Ryan Seacrest is a freaking GEEK! He is a Simon Cowell wannabe! He wishes that he had half of what Simon has and also the recognition that Simon gets where ever he goes. Simon Cowell is American Idol, and that is what Ryan Seacrest wants, he wants to be numero uno, no. 1, and he falls short in every way possible. With there being so many changes on American Idol, Paula leaving, Kara coming on board last season, and Ellen DeGenerate taking Paula's place, it's time for Ryan to leave right along with Simon. Face it, once Simon is gone, AI will be lucky to last 2 more seasons. Even the voting is not what it has been in the past. When they decided yo bring in Ellen, who knows absolutely nothing about music, a lot of people decided not to watch, myself incuded. Now that Simon will be leaving, you can kiss half of your audience goodbye. Simon is the show, and Ryan lives in Simon's shadow. Goodbye Ryan, go get a life and come out the closet!!!

ummmmm, Georgia i dont know what you are talking about because actually, there was an all time world record on how many votes were recieved this year on American Idol. But I do agree with you that they shouldnt have had Ellen as a judge, because she doesnt have experience in the music industry, and kinda proved that in the first few episodes when she said 'from the point of someone who likes music' or something like that. Although I do like Ryan and hope the show doesnt stop after Simon leaves. I really dont think Ryan is a Simon-wanna-be, and would say he is a great host, always looking presentable(instead of wearing the same v-neck tee that Simon always wears), and very well spoken, as well as funny. I love American Idol and hope it continues!

Ryan's stylist needs to go. He looked better last season, this year he looks ridiculous, like an aging geek.Doesn't he have a mirror or doesn't he review the tapes?

Ryan Seacrest appears to be a sincere well mannered compassionate host.He consistently demonstrates great people skills when he interacts with the contestants who are often on the verge of a melt down. I think he is a HUGE part of that show AND I miss cute sassy little Pauls!!!!!

You people are harsh! The man is trying to do his job and earn a living. I bet none of you could do 1/2 the job. I think he does a great job and I think his banter with Simon is funny. Sometimes he puts him in his place because Simon is so arrogant and rude. He seems to relate well to the contestants and he gets the contestants to open up. I don't know who else could do it any better. Besides, I think Ryan is kinda cute ... ;-)

Well, like, Jeff, like is like all you know how to use in like a sentence? I'm not like hatin as you put it. I just can't stand Ryan lyin seacrest. He is always trying to start something with Simon, and he can't hold a candle to Simon. Simon has the money, the fame, and can wear the same v-neck tee shirt and still look hot! Everyone wants Simon's approval, and they want Simon to tell them that they are good and doing a geat job. It really doesn't matter what anyone else has to say, they want Simon to like them and their performance. Not as many people are watching this year as they did in previous years. AI is loosing it's edge and it's audience. That is a fact!

Who cares what Ryon wears? He's nothing but a "Presenter". His banter is nothing but time fillers and nonsense. He's about as important as some one walking by the broadcast building during the show.

Ryan is responsible for keeping the pace of a live show on track. It is a whole lot harder than it looks.

Who is rian seecurse anyway? Does he sing? Dance? Act? I have never heard of him and noone that I know has either. I really don,t care for his personality. I think he is a little you know. Welkl with Paula gone and Simon leaving there won,t be much of Idol left anyway. It really went downhill this season already with the absense of Paula. I believe Simons new show will deliver a knockout punch to Idol and to to rin seaturd too.

Ryan looked great the first few seasons, but now he looks like an up tight old man in old man Sears catalog type suits. His washed out brown hair is so drab...There is nothing young and hip about him anymore!
