Calvin Klein Rumored to Stop Using Size Zero Models

See ya later, size zero!

Calvin Klein has reportedly ditched beyond-skinny models in favor size 2-4 beauties, Fashionologie reports.

With size 4 supermodel Lara Stone rumored to front several Calvin Klein campaigns this fall, designer Francisco Costa -- who recently spoke out about the use of underweight, underaged models -- has apparently decided to ditch size 0 girls altogether, according to the fashion blog.

Meanwhile, 1 Management Christopher Michael reportedly spilled more details, tweeting that it was "a sign of the times indeed."

Woo Hoo! We might actually have to fight for a cheese cube at the catering trays backstage next Fashion Week -- usually we're the only ones eating.

Though sizes 2 and 4 are hardly "meaty," it is a big step for the fashion industry and further proof that the ongoing celebration of curves still has legs. (Sorry, Garance.)

But what will become of these size 0 castoffs? Perhaps they can find work elsewhere... as human toothpicks?

Meanwhile, check out Lane Bryant's beef about a censored plus-size lingerie commercial.

'Human toothpick' here. Having a high metabolism sucks. I imagine it might suck as much as carrying around 70 extra pounds does. I get that your target audience is the overweight MSG-addicted middle-aged Midwestern hillbilly, but there are the tail ends of that bell curve to consider- the outliers, if you will. So bugger off, or watch who you're marginalizing.

thank you! i never leave comments here but this article is hurtful...i too have a high metabolism and am sick of defending myself from strangers and even doctors who think i have an eating disorder. my dad is the same way, but he's a man so he's considered lucky not hated. there is nothing wrong or ugly about a naturally skinny girl!

"But what will become of these size 0 castoffs? Perhaps they can find work elsewhere... as human toothpicks?" Wow StyleList!!! That's pretty hurtful. I'm a size 0, just finished my *second* masters degree before turning 25 and I work as an IT consultant for a leading medical university, all after turning down the opportunity to enter the modeling industry. Glad you have high expectations for women of my caliber.

It's about time! I don't know who that model is in the picture w/this article, but not only is she so thin it's gross, she's not particularly attractive and she looks pissed off (or like she's about to keel over from lack of food)! Next it would be really cool if they would stop doing these girls' hair like 12 year old boys (creepy!)

I think we as people need to love ourselves and strive to be healthy. I myself am not a toothpick nor am I a big girl. I reall feel that instead of making fun of women on both ends of the spectrum we get to the bottom of the real issues. Maybe once we can do that we can get rid of the stigmas of weight.

We must remember that models are not supposed to be realistic portraits of the female form, they are supposed to be walking hangers to SHOW OFF THE CLOTHES. It's not about the woman, it's about THE CLOTHES! If you have a product (and coture is an EXPENSIVE product) you want to display it the best way you can for optimal desire and profit. Putting these designs on skinny models is the ideal way to display them. Simply put: The CLOTHES look best on skinny models. They are not selling women, they are selling clothing.

While I am glad that Calvin Klein is using larger models the parting shot about "human toothpicks" was mean and uncalled for. If we "average" sized women want to be treated fairly we must insist that all women are. Thin or heavier, we are in this together!

I thought the Lane Bryant ad they mentioned was lovely, sexy and funny. By contrast to this photo, the model looks great. Dumb of the networks to be scared of it.

I remember Twiggy at the height of her fame and the clothes she wore that played off that look. At the time most models were on the thin side (Jean Shrimpton, Patti Boyd, etc.) but really not the unhealthy, unhappy looking creatures of today. What's with the scowls and the faded corpse look? What happened to models like Cindy Crawford, Rene Russo and Dayle Haddon? These women LOOKED GOOD! Guess the idea is to not distract from the clothing but to have someone as close to a walking coat hanger as one can be.

I do not think that it is necessary to put down people of one size to even the field for others. The "human toothpick" comment was out of line. Women come in all sizes, and there is beauty in all those sizes. We do not need to be pressured to achieve a weight that is under the low end of the weight tables, but neither should ladies who are naturally very thin be put down for their body size.

Will you marry me, please?!?
You sound like a great catch.
Seriously, I don't know who's dumber; Klein or the author of this article. There are some contented "fatties" out there that chide these models, but clearly, the average woman pines to look like them. That's what attracts a lot of attention and sells the clothing. They are going to lose a lot of business. This is sort of akin to all the wives out there that don't want there man going to strip clubs cause they come home hornied up.

REALITY, A size 0 in Coture in 2010 is a size 8 to 10 in a pattern. A size 2 or 4 is a size 10 or 12 pattern. (McCalls or Butterick) 110-125 pound Marilyn Monroe was a size 10-12, 110 pound Nancy Reagan a size 8 or 10, and so on ... but that was before all of the "resizing" so FAT WOMEN that lost "all" of their weight and still weighed over 160 pounds at 5-6 (Oprah)could say they were a size 10. A REAL size 10 woman at 5-6 weighs in at 110-130 pounds AT THE VERY MOST. ANY WOMAN, except a BODYBUILDER with HUGE MUSCLE that is 160 pounds would have to be close to if not over 6 feet tall and big boned unless she is FAT. A man that is over 170 (unless MUSCLE BOUND had better be taller than 6 foot or else he is FAT.
ENOUGH EXCUSES women and men, YOURE FAT and you need to go on a diet and lose weight PERIOD.

Only reason I can see for using such scrawny models is to save money on the amount of cloth used in the designs they wear. Of course, you have to have bizarre models to show off equally bizarre fashions. It'll be interesting to see how somewhat normal sized models look on the runway and in ads.

I am curious to see how the general public REALLY sees the average woman. I am 5'10" and 145 lbs. Am I fat? Now I tell you I wear a size 10. Am I fat now??

This article, although in good spirit, was also very hurtful to those who are naturally very skinny. I, myself, am 5'4 and 105lb. I can fit some size zeros if it were not for my latin butt. I'm very skinny and have not been able to gain weight like others my whole life. And if I do gain weight (which is rare) it goes only to my front and rear. I used to be under 100lb., and when I gained some weight I went up a cup size and put on two inches on my hips. Do you know that skinny girls get just as much ridicule about their weight as do obese? You just do not realize it as much because you are not one of us. The constant reminders of how we are not meaty enough, or the questions of eating disorders. I'm constantly told to eat more, when in fact, I eat more than most teenage boys.

I think that "healthy" is whatever body type someone is that exercises regularly, eats healthy and has a healthy lifestyle in general. I am a size 4-6ish and pretty dang tall...I am healthy where I am at. I eat great, but I still indulge in "bad" stuff every once in a while--it's all about moderation! I can run 5 miles. I am a kickboxing instructor, I am a dancer...whatever it is that makes a person be at THEIR healthiest is exactly where they should be, whether it's a 00 or 16. People are different...thank God or it would be such a boring freakin world!!! Americans are obsessed with fat people and with overly skinny people. In reality, I think people should chill out and focus on health! Forget the tabloids, magazines, tv shows, movies--whatever! Who freakin cares what they portray! Be at your individual best and size. Be confident in it and rock it...
