It's that awkward time of year when spring is in full effect, yet summer is hinting at its arrival with hair-raising, humid days that send our strands into a spiral. After spending an entire season perfecting our favorite 'dos from the runways, we're in much need of some hair inspiration.

But no worries! Our friends at Elle.com have rounded up the hottest hairstyles for Summer 2010 -- ones that fashion-forward stars are already rocking. From texturized, wavy bobs to ballerina buns to messy, side braids, you definitely won't get bored with these sizzling summer hairdos.

And did you know that matching your gloss, blush and eyeliner with your hair is okay?

Best Summer 2010 Hairstyles

Boho-chic fashionista Nicole Richie rocks a messy side-braid effortlessly. The plaited do from the Miu Miu and Alexander Wang spring runways has also been worn by Rachel McAdams and Kate Bosworth.

Best Summer 2010 Hairstyles

Beach waves are always fun for summer, but as the spring and fall catwalks proved, straight strands like Reese Witherspoon's are back. Just be sure to soften flatironed tresses by adding a touch of volume and/or wispy bangs to avoid an overly harsh look.

Best Summer 2010 Hairstyles

As Rachel McAdams demonstrates, a ballerina bun is ideal for showing off shoulders and statement earrings. The classic updo experienced a resurgence on the spring runways, where legendary dancer Martha Graham served as inspiration at Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen.

Best Summer 2010 Hairstyles

The grown-out-bob is in-but Anne Hathaway is the only actress with this style who had a bob to begin with! Emily Blunt and Kate Beckinsale (shown at left) got their long locks specially cut and coiffed to appear this way.

Best Summer 2010 Hairstyles

For a carefree summer do, above-the-shoulder waves are the way to go. Both Zoe Saldana (shown at left) and Jessica Alba have recently trimmed their tresses to sport this tousled style.

Best Summer 2010 Hairstyles

Lanvin's spring 2010 show made high buns chic-and Jessica Alba is just one of a handful of stars who have embraced this warm-weather-ready do (see Whitney Port, January Jones, and Kate Bosworth, to name a few).

Best Summer 2010 Hairstyles

For hot summer evenings, pairing a black headband with an updo is both practical-and stylish. Whether you opt for Yves Saint Laurent's plastic or January Jones' ribbon, black adds instant glamour.

R u kidding? These aren't styles there, "I forgot to comb my hair" but since they are skinny models they pass on everything, even gas.

Most of these women look like someone that needs to go to the hairdresser. Why do some accept clothes and hairstyles movie stars have just because of who they are. Most of these hairstyles look like a brush is needed.

What about the ultimate summer "do" the pixie cut? It's cool, easy and perfect for hot, humid summer days.

When did nude become deep brown?! They are really stretching it! You could get away with a brown color on a woman of color as that's their nude/natural. But not on Katie Holmes! LOL

LOL... the same person who thinks *not combing* is a style. Hey, I woke up and my hair is a rat's nest - I'm in style! :)

PS - not interested in neanderthal *doctor* who thinks who thinks so lowly of women with short hair. Hello, 1950!

All of these are long, messy looking styles. Who's gonna want all that stringy hair down your neck and in your face when it's 100 degrees and 50% humidity? Guess they're just attempting to make it stylish if you can't be bothered to comb your hair before you go out.

The least they could have done was to put some SHORT styles in there. Not everybody likes long hair anymore.

The pixie cut is old news. Noone gets those anymore unless they don't want to do anything to their hair. Sorry.

Are u kidding me? These hairdos do not take a whole lot of imagination to create, I just hope they were not created by a "Top Stylist". I wish that sometime these people can remember that not everyone has long stringy hair, and can show some styles of short hair. Oh I forgot people with short hair already 9 times out of 10 have a great style.....

Someone famous leaves their house on their day off looking like crap [no stylists to fix em up] because they couldn't be bothered to even brush their own hair...voila, it's a style! What a load of garbage. AOL's leadin said 10 styles? I don't see 10. Also, to those complaining about no short hairdo styles...if your hair is short, there's not much to do anything with...sheesh, some people complain without thinking.

I hate the long, stringy, messy, bedhead look! Can't wait until that trend goes away! I agree with someone who said that, that style was probably created by a celeb who just got out of bed and didn't have their hair stylist that day to do anything with them. It's a lazy look.

The problem is that these "styles" as they call them are repeated looks from past fashion trends. Stars today have no imagination or any unique qualities. I do agree that most of these looks are "I just rolled out of bed" and the prints and nudes?? What the hell is this? I don't understand anything about the movie/music industry today. It's all a vast land of blah. I'm in my early 30's and I can remember being wowed by fashion and new trends now it's a bunch of copy cats that can't think of anything substantial. Anyone agree??

I really like these looks.kinda bohemian style. if their hair was done up all sleek and flawless then you'd all be complaining that you don't have the time or money to have your hair look that perfect. there is something always to complain about.

I like both long hair and short hair. I can't wear my hair short. I don't have the face for it. That is a problem on those humid, 100 degree days! I don't look good with my hair up either but it is a must on hot, humid days!

My hair looks like these actresses and models sometimes. (although my appearance is far from model like!) I don't fuss about my appearance too much.

People complain that my hairstyle is outdated but it is easy to care for, it suits me and none of the current hairstyles suit me.

It is so funny how people try to pass "bed head" as a look. Everyone of those actress would look ten times better if they would just comb their hair... Plus, short hair looks should have added, because now alot of classy women where there hair short and they look great doing it!! :)
