Kate Moss who?

Ashley Graham
is the model everyone is talking about, thanks to the controversy over her allegedly censored lingerie commercial for Lane Bryant. As we reported earlier, the plus-size retailer claims the ad was nixed by ABC and Fox for exposing too much cleavage, while an equally racy Victoria's Secret spot -- featuring willow-thin models -- got preferential airtime.

So how does the full-figured model feel about all the fuss and becoming the new face of the pro-curves movement?

StyleList has all the details in this exclusive interview with the 22-year-old Lincoln, NE, native.

StyleList: Did you have any inkling that the Lane Bryant ad would be so controversial when you shot it?
Ashley Graham: I had no idea. I was excited to be doing a commercial for Lane Bryant and promoting curvier women to feel free in their bodies! I was extremely shocked to hear the news, considering all the press that the plus industry has been getting lately. I think the ad is beautiful and very tasteful.

SL: How do you feel about the subsequent censorship controversy, ABC's charges that it's a publicity stunt, and the Victoria's Secret Nakeds ad running freely?
AG:
It's a double standard. The Victoria's Secret models can look amazing in their commercials, why can't we? Our "assets" are just a little bigger. Does it make that big of a difference?

SL: What do you think about the current trend of celebrating curves? Is it a welcome change, or do you worry that it's a gimmick that will fade away?
AG:
I feel fashion is changing and is finally ready to accept a variety of sizes. There has been so much press on this issue, so it's a big issue. Women want to feel empowered, and the mass interest on this issue is slowly but surely bringing about change.

I feel the current trend of celebrating curves is not just a gimmick that is going to fade away. Curves are in, and they are here to stay, along with celebrating all women of every size and shape!

SEE ASHLEY IN THE LANE BRYANT COMMERCIAL

SL: What sort of response from the public have you had since the Lane Bryant ad?
AG:
A very positive response! Women and men love the Lane Bryant commercial and were also shocked to hear about it being banned. People want to see the commercial. Women at every size want to see "themselves" on TV.

SL: Why is it important to see curvier women in their lingerie or as sex symbols?
AG:
It's very important to see all sizes of women in lingerie. All women are different and so are their bodies -- every single one should be praised! I know that women who are in the same size bracket as I am would want to see a woman like them feeling confident in her skin on television. It's sending a message of body acceptance and changing the idea of what beauty is "supposed to be."

SL: What do you say to critics who say the plus-size look isn't healthy?
AG:
I'm wondering what their idea of healthy is. I'm a size 16. I work out 2 to 3 times a week and eat a balanced diet. What makes me not healthy? Everybody has a different viewpoint of what is healthy and what isn't, but if you're taking care of yourself then that's all that should matter.

SL: Who are your fashion role models/style icons?
AG:
I turn to my best friend Crystal Renn for all my styling! She is a style icon, and I can't get enough of her effortless and chic style. We go shopping all the time, and I'm always picking up a new tip or two from her.

SL: Have you ever had a negative experience at a model casting because of your size?
AG:
No, I've never had a negative experience with any casting/job. Curves are becoming more and more accepted in the fashion industry, and I don't see this floating away anytime soon either.

SL: How did you get into modeling?
AG:
I was at the Omaha mall in Nebraska when a man from a local agency asked if I wanted to become a model... the rest is basically history from there.

SL: What's next for you?
AG:
So many doors are opening that I can't wait to explore! The fascinating thing about my job is that new things are popping up every day! So watch out, you'll be seeing more of me!

In meanwhile, read more about the plus-size debate.

I cant believe that ad was censored. What was wrong with it? It is tame compared to most of the Victoria Secret ad's .What is wrong with people? This shows less then most bathing suits do!!

Simple: She doesn't look like a 6'5", anorexic 12 year old like the rest of the fashion industry uses.

The average woman is a size 12/14, the average "model:" a size 0/2.

I've seen LOTS of "average" and smaller size women shop at Lane Bryant; it's the only place to get a quality, supportive bra if you've been "blessed" by nature. You can bank on them lasting 5-6 years.

I fail to see how this woman is PLUS size. She is beautiful, motivated, and seems confident and comfortable with her body. Honestly, what could be better than that in a woman??!!! Our culture has so twisted the meaning of true beauty that we can't even identify what it really is anymore. Don't get me wrong, I was once as size 2 and I really miss it. BUT I am working to achieve a healthy, strong size. Beauty fades, unfortunately. Time seems to diminish that. What truly matters is what's on the inside, as cliche as that sounds. Again, taking care of the outside is also very important, but to place a blanket sentence such as "fat girls don't get dates" is not accurate. That's all I'm sayin!I'm a doctor,35 ,rich but still single. It's hard to get a girlfriend in my town ,most of them like my money more than like me.I just want to find my true love.so i uploaded my hot photos on Sugardaddyhunt.c o m under the name of hot561.u dont have to be a millionaire, but u can meet one there. ..if you girls see this comment,i hope you will check my photos out there.maybe you are the one who i'm looking for!!!

Yeah, she's much better than these skinny 0-size models with only skin and bones! Have you seen that scandalous video from the photo-session of the plus size lingerie ad? You can watch her nude there!!! I've seen it here: http://doiop.com/Ashley_Graham

My god, this woman is absolutely gorgeous; much prettier than the anorexic models we see too often. I think ABC is crazy to have a problem with this ad. Anyone who doesn't think Ashley Graham is beautiful is the one with the problem. All you so-called plus-sized women out there, don't let this get you down. There are plenty of good, decent, respectful men out there who think you're great the way you are.

My sentiments exactly. Ashley is absolutely stunning. So what if she has a little extra? I'd still wrap my arms around her in a second. Size 0 may not be healthy. A little meat on the bones is.

i don't even understand why they say she is plus size. She is perfect size. All models should look like that. I bet if they ever polled men, they would find that way to skinny is not were its at....blah! Keep em coming girl, you rock.

I find it interesting that the term "plus-sized" automatically leads people to think of obesity. Health is in the lifestyle, not the size.

No, health is in the size, lifestyle is what causes the size. If you think otherwise you are probably fat and in denial. That's the truth and don't try to sugar-coated it or you'll eat that too.
BTW this model is 2 sizes too fat. If you want confirmation just look at what an average man is chasing - definitely not that.

Gina.
As a healthy man I can say ; I would definitely be "chasing" her. She is beautiful!
why is it that when curvy girls start getting some attention the "twig people" get all upset and bothered. Can you not grasp the concept that beauty and sexiness comes in all shapes and sizes.

Why is it they banned this commercial?? Yes she is showing cleavage...no more so than the Victoria Secret models. The only difference is hers are REAL!!! Is it okay to show cleavage as long as it's fake?? What a country we live in that would ban a commercial just because the model is plus size, she is beautiful, sexy and an example of most women in this country. I would almost bet that men are more attracted to her than those stick thin models...i was watching a Victorias Secret ad the other day and thought to myself "WOW, she is too skinny", but they didn't ban that one did they??

I fail to understand it all. Being a waif if considered healthy. Rubens would scream! Why can't we just allow people to decide for themselves what is beautiful? American says it celebrates freedom, yet, it is another way of folks saying, only if you think what I want you to think.

The simple fact is no matter how hard the fat people try to say "curves are in" nobody is buying it. Thin is in and always will be. Thats why fat girls don't get dates. If "foodies" were hot, then guys would want to hang with them. Skinny ckicks are always the hottest. Women can believe what they want but every guy knows when we go out, whoever draws the short straw gets stuck with the fat chick.

Ed, I respect your point of view and do agree to a degree. Most guys when they go out to the club or bar indeed look for the skinny girl, but mainly because like you, there are highly insecure ''men'' so they constantly have to prove to other MEN that you can get an ''attractive'' girl usually means, a skinny model type girl. Women need to start learning that all this body conscious crap has to do more with men's insecurities, and their own personal failures as human beings than with a woman's figure. As women, we must not allow ''men'' like ed to use us as scapegoats for their inability to be MEN. We must teach all women, in this world, there are men who genuinely like skinny women and men who love curvy women and even men who go crazy about obese women. I've been on both sides, for a long time, a skinny model now, an average woman, but still attractive, do get dates, and highly sexy because I am confident and self-assured of who I am. Mr. Ed instead of being attacked deserves our compassion because anyone who needs a skinny trophy girl, an expensive car to feel worth and valuable deserves nothing but compassion. Ed, if you were a man who just likes skinny girls, you would have simply made a simple comment rather than try to bring down curvy women to make yourself feel better about whatever issues you have. Remember, you mother had to get fat at some point so she could bring you into this world, perhaps she should have had an abortion instead? I wonder perhaps like many ''men'', you are a frustrated homosexual who hates women because you view them as the reason you have to live in the closet???? if you did love women, you would speak of them with respect whatever size they are...and as women thats what we need to teach our daughters, sisters, etc. that a man that is disrespectful to any woman, is not a man worth our time and energy. Girls, never allow any man to trash other women, it is wrong.
