Spring's Prettiest Makeup: Coral Lips, Bold Eye Liner & Glowing Skin

Carmindy, StyleList's resident Beauty Basics expert and TLC's "What Not To Wear" makeup artist is always the first person we turn to for easy makeup advice. The California-born blonde has just published her third book, Crazy Busy Beautiful, and is a master of easy, breezy beauty.

We recently caught up with the makeup maven for her top five Spring and Summer 2010 beauty looks.

1. To restore your skin's radiance, pick up a luminizing face primer. Choose one with light-reflecting particles, so even when you wear less makeup you still have a glow. For spring, the look is all about seeing skin with sheer washes of color, so luminous skin is key.

2. I saw bold lips on tons of runways and at the Oscars -- especially vivid corals in lipstick or gloss. Don't think grandma, look for pinky, sheer shimmering versions of coral -- these flatter everyone. Just pair the shade with sheer tinted moisturizer, a bit of bronzer and black mascara.

3. If don't want to go for bold lip, try a colored eyeliner. Blues, greens and purples are perfect for spring, smudged on the upper lash line. Look for a waterproof pencil, so you know the liner will stay in place.

4. As far as bronzer goes, this season it's about strategically placed bronzer, not all over the face. I like to apply it in a "C" formation: from the temples, around the sides of your face and right under your cheekbones. This way the center of your face stays unbronzed and looks brighter. It's more naturally contoured modern way to wear bronzer.

Tip: Stay away from highly metallic formulas --they're only good for daytime. If you can't find a shimmer free bronzer, buy a foundation that's two shades darker then your skin tone and apply in the "C" formation, just like bronzer.

5. It's time to Spring clean your makeup drawer. Get rid of all the products you've been holding on to for too long – they can collect bacteria and dirt. Toss mascara after 3 months, get rid of old contact lenses, sharpen eye pencils and clean your makeup brushes (get an instant brush cleaner at the drugstore -- dip the brush in, pull out and let dry to kill all bacteria).

Ewwww on the eyeliner! But I do like the coral shade of lipstick - I've been wearing that now for about a month or so.

The eyeliner looks ridiculous! However, I do like the coral shade of lipstick!

The lipstick's pretty but that aqua eyeliner makes the model look like a clown.

Well knock me over with a feather, will ya? I've been wearing red lipstick since I was 15 and I am 67 now. Revlon has a nice shade of a light red called Hot Coral which i have in my red lipstick collection. Very nice. Good quality.

I use colored eyeliner all the time. You don't have to go over the top like on the model, but I use a lovely turquoise color to accent my eyes and if I am wearing a color close to it. It brings your face and your clothing into coordination and I've never gotten a bad remark and I've been doing it for years.

While the lipstick looks fine, and is certainly nothing new, the eye makeup on this model looks ridiculous. Reminds me of the 'heroin chic' thing of the 90s, only in blue.

YIPE! That eyeliner!!!! Did she do her makeup in the dark? She could get a job at Barnum and Bailey!

I wonder if someone screwed this up?? That model actually made me laugh! Plus, that look looks like I flipped open a vintage Vogue magazine from the 70's or something. I know retro looks come back in and out of trend, but the eyeliner was and always will be rediculous for real life situations. But then i read the article, and it says bold eyeliner smudged on the UPPER lash line, etc..NOT the lower. Which would make all the difference in the world.

Nix on that ugly aqua eyeliner on the bottom lid! Bleeech! I agree with GPUPPY1. The woman looks like a clown!

Hey - at least she got paid to look that way! I still like Connie Chung ( I think that's who it was) saying to wear a lipstick the same color as your tongue.

Come on. Too much jealousy here. The model is beautiful. I did not see one flaw. You have to know how to do the eyeliner or you will look like a clown.

As a hair and make up artist for over 25 years, I have to tell you that the woman in the picture can only pull off that look in a photo shoot or the runway. For real people it would look mental and stupid! People should always wear what's right for their face and age! Bold eyeliner on a woman in her 50's and above looks horrible most of the time. Coral lipstick is not a color that some people can wear. It depends on their skin tone. What is concidered "IT" is not always IT for certain people. UGH I hate when these idiots try to push a certain look onto every one because not everyone can wear that look!

The model looks unbelievably STUPID with the eyeshadow under her eyes, and if she looks stupid, think how bad the rest of us "normal" people would look like doing the same thing...

Yea for the beautiful colors shown here. A few days ago there was an article hyping "black" lipstick. Yuck! Love the fresh coral color and the bright eye shades. Need more of this!
