The 8th floor of the luxe retailer was transformed into a chill oasis replete with fruity cocktails and beachy tunes. At the center of it all was the latest offerings by Hudson Jeans.
From harem pants to patchwork styles, white skinnies to dark washes, the collection was a refreshing blend of practicality, sex appeal, and 'of the moment' denim trends.
Of course this is not surprising for a company that recently appointed rock royalty Georgia May Jagger, as its new face.
We talked to Ben Taverniti, the creative director of the British jean brand, about the new Spring 2010 collection, his favorite pieces and denim trends for Fall 2010.
StyleList: What was your inspiration behind this collection?
Ben Taverniti: This is the extended collection that we create twice a year and this particular collection is less about fashion and more about the basics, and new basics. It's not about being in or out, rather the pieces are season-less and very wearable. Each piece is unique and different so the jeans really don't compete with one another.
SL: What are your favorite pieces in the collection?
BT: I love them all but I guess if I had to choose, I would say the 'Resurrection jeans' are my favorite. We took a bunch of different pieces, samples from other jeans, and stitched them together to make a new pant. Each pair took about six hours to make and there are five right here so that's a lot of time already. Each jean is a one of a kind so that's pretty cool.
SL: Victoria Beckham was just caught in a pair of Harem pants. Why did you include a pair it the collection?
BT: I personally love the silhouette of these Harem cargo jeans. It's how I wear my pants, loose at the top and then more fitted near the bottom. It's a look I always love.
SL: What are the top denim trends you noticed on the runway for Fall 2010?
BT: There are a lot of grays and dark colors, dark washes. Very basic styles with subtle details. Military is in. High-waist is very in and then there are the harems and bell-bottoms. Trends are generally more simple this season. It's all about being practical.
