Fashion world celebrities and Hollywood stars lit up the Met Gala's red carpet tonight by adding a little shine in the form of silver and gold evening gowns.

Coming in bold gold metals was Anne Hathaway, who dazzled in a strapless, princess-like Valentino number against her milky skin, Brooke Shields sparkling as Michael Kors' arm-candy wearing his gold sequined-covered design, Dylan Lauren in her father's slinky liquid gold halter gown, Claire Danes in burnished gold Burberry, Padma Lakshimi showing off her post-baby curves in skintight bronzed Roberto Cavalli and M.I.A. in a gold chain-metal design layered over a black tube dress by Alexander Wang for Gap -- a piece that will be on the auction block later this week.

Those of the silver rank, although no less dazzling, included Marion Cotillard in Dior haute couture gown with sheer sleeves and a built-in necklace and bracelets, Donatella Versace in her own gilded criss-cross design, a raven-haired Nicole Richie in a glittering empire waist Marc Jacobs dress and event organizer and co-chair Anna Wintour in a ruched silver column gown topped by an embellished jacket courtesy of Chanel Haute Couture.
