She's already conquered the world of design, and now Nicole Miller has set her eyes on the creation of her third scent, simply dubbed Nicole Miller.

About a year in the making, the fragrance launched this week at Saks Fifth Avenue and the design phenom took some time to speak with StyleList about her inspiration for the bottle design, how the scent is truly a one-of-a-kind, and her thoughts on New York Fashion Week moving to Lincoln Center.

StyleList: Congratulations on your new fragrance launch of Nicole Miller, a Saks exclusive for the next six months. What lead you to create your third scent?
Nicole Miller: I had two fragrances over 10 years ago that did quite well and I had been wanting to do something new.

SL: You mentioned that the new fragrance is unlike anything else; I definitely agree. Was there one particular ingredient that was integral to the creation of Nicole Miller?
NM: Absolutely. I wanted something surprising, memorable and young – nothing too powdery or floral. I really love the fruit and wood notes. I always like the word delicious and wanted the fragrance to express that. I am so pleased that is exactly what we have achieved. My apparel designs are often very counter trend and i wanted that same thing for the fragrance. Women who think young like to wear my clothes and i wanted the same reaction to the fragrance.

SL: I understand that it took about a year from start to finish; what was your favorite part about the process?
NM: Every part of the development process was interesting – but the most fun was working with the perfumer on creation of the scent itself.

SL:The bottle certainly has a commanding presence, yet is quite elegant; can you tell us a bit about your inspiration for its design?
NM: We took a classic French bottle shape and added elements to render it modern. My ruched dresses inspired the texturing etched into the glass and our celtic knot designs were used as embellishment in bronze-tone on the front.

SL: How do you wear fragrance -- do you spritz it every day, or reserve it for special occasions, or perhaps layer it with other favorite scents?
NM: Mostly at night but I am so excited about this one I am wearing it everyday!

SL: Are you excited for the New York Fashion Week move to Lincoln Center?
NM:I think change is always good ...

SL: Do you have any plans yet to participate in the second Fashion's Night Out on September 10th, 2010?

NM: Yes – and with a surprise music act at our Soho store in New York.

SL: For the rest of 2010 and even 2011, what can we expect from the Nicole Miller brand? Any other new line or product extensions or store openings?
NM: We are reworking our flagship retail stores around the country to emphasize great new sportswear, separates and more casual pieces that show the range of my aesthetic. It will be focused on our runway look that is modern, sexy and fun. We will still have cocktail and evening dresses that I am known for, but also much more that is new and interesting.

This video is a cool view if you've ever been curious about how designers come up with a new scent. And as an added bonus, you get to see Diane go out in the woods (wearing jeans, no less!) to talk about the other main flower in her scent, violet.
