They've tapped the show's star, Lea Michele, to appear in an upcoming web-based commercial parodying Dove Hair Care's "Favorite Things" campaign, to promote their new line of Intensive Repair products.
StyleList was on the Los Angeles set to get some behind-the-scenes scoop, and while we can't show you the video yet -- it goes live later this month -- we can give you tricks of the trade for achieving Michele's killer coif.
To steal Michele's style, Dove Hair Care celebrity hair stylist Gretta Monahan, who also appears in the spot to offer the starlet some pointers, emphasizes the most important step is prepping the hair with shampoo and conditioner, followed by a heat defense product.
"With Lea's look we use a lot of heat styling," says Monahan. "We blow dry, we use a curling iron and sometimes we set (with hot rollers). On her hair, we spritzed Dove Heat Defense because that creates a very protective barrier between the hair and the tools we're using."
Next, Monahan suggests using a medium round boar bristle brush while blow drying to build volume at the root, then smooth through and put a little bend at the ends. For texture, she recommends using whatever tools you have on hand at home.

"You can work with a set of hot rollers, large sections and large rollers, or, you can simply use a large barrel, 1 ½" curling iron. Use vertical sections, put the curling iron in and do a couple of loops back, leaving the ends out. I think that's the biggest trick between not having spiral perm prom hair and having gorgeous Lea Michele's hair. That's what really makes the look modern."
Keep an eye out for teasers of Michele's viral video during "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance" commercial breaks in the coming weeks.
