DESIGNER: Kevin Carrigan for Calvin Klein

INSPIRATION: The presentation was three-fold, Carrigan showed apparel, jeans and underwear. Staying true to the Calvin Klein brand, the main line focused on coolly minimal pieces created with a slightly military feel in different fabrications such as tweed and jacquard. "This season is all about sexy, streamlined American sportswear with a focus on a fitted silhouette," he said.

The newly engineered Calvin Klein X Jeans for Fall 2010 line also focused on a sleeker profile and flattering the form via a new technology called TX 400 that is comprised of lycra and soft rinsed denim. "The jeans are designed specifically for enhancing and creating a sensual profile and so they are engineered with close attention paid to the seaming and the darts," says Carrigan.

And what to wear underneath it all? Chic unmentionables of course. The new women's line is called Envy and is constructed with ultra lightweight fabric to give a more revealing silhouette.

TOP LOOKS: Where to start? Transitional dresses in gray and black with asymmetrical zips, tuxedo suit with double-breasted blazer (or just the pants on their own with a fine merino wool turtleneck), red ponte cap sleeve dress with a thin belt. Excellent outerwear - belted herringbone coat, double-breasted oatmeal-colored peacoat (I still have mine from ages ago), oversized wraps, faux-leather bomber jackets.

ACCESSORIES: Tall strappy sandals, knee-high boots, and platform pumps in black, gray, and taupe. Leather handbags in the form of totes and hobos with urban chic metal hardware accents.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:
Carrigan's collection is filled with the utilitarian goodies that are so important in fashion right now. The sportswear selection is excellent for urbanites who careen from the office to a night out on the town, and are looking for the right amount of smart sex appeal. Staple pieces can be found in the officer-esque coats and jackets that are subtly adorned with epaulets. The jeans are slick as a whip and will surely be devoured by fans of the ongoing "jeggins" trend. Overall, those who desire to be fashion-forward without ponying up for a ready-to-wear price tag will benefit greatly from these offerings.
