While Johansson's superheroine character dons curly red locks and edgy, all-black attire in the movie, on the cover of V's "Summer Scorcher" issue (on newsstands Tuesday), the actress does a complete 180, going back to her blonde roots and sporting a light and cheerful off-the-shoulder top dotted with strawberries by Yves Saint Laurent.
The sweetness continues inside with a spread shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, where fans can stare at tight close-ups of Johansson's pretty mug and amped-up hair while she shows off hoop earrings by Louis Vuitton, as well as a pearl ring and black and white diamond camellia cuff by Chanel, respectively.
Of course, throughout the issue, the new face of Dolce & Gabbana Beauty also flaunts her famously bee-stung lips covered in one of the company's many shades of lipstick.
"It's all in a day's work for me," she tells V of switching from acting to modeling for brands like Louis Vuitton, L'Oreal, Mango and Moët & Chandon.
"Working with these incredible hair and makeup teams, you go in looking like a schmoe, and you come out like a movie star. You go through the works, and then you're like this perfectly prepared sausage... no one ever sees what goes in."
It seems what went into her role playing Black Widow included months of vigorous athletic training.
"This is a no-b---s--- character," Johansson says of her first action movie role. "It's not that she's non-feeling, she just gets the job done. She's part of something bigger, and she knows it. She's this crazy badass, and she has no time for f------ around."
In the same way that Black Widow is self-assured, Johansson says she's getting there in her own life.
"I'm 25, and for some time I've played these characters who are kind of figuring it out, transforming from young girls to young women," she says.
"I don't feel like a girl anymore. And I feel like my life and career are on a different path than they had been. There's a lot of road behind me. I feel at this point I really want to do work that is challenging to me. Not to say that I don't look at my job and realize that I'm ridiculously fortunate, and purely an actor for hire. You never forget that it's all so vulnerable."
