Eat Your Wrinkles Away

What you eat and drink can magnify or decrease the appearance of wrinkles on your face, New York nutritionist Keri Glassman contends in her new book, "The O2 Diet."

The first registered dietitian to launch a line of antioxidant-based skincare products, Glassman is known for incorporating food ingredients into a complete skincare plan that produces anti-aging results from the inside out.

"I like to focus on what people can add to their diet, instead of what they need to take out. But for the best skin results, you want to replace trans-fat fried and preserved foods in favor of the fresh, antioxidant-rich options," advises Glassman.

For natural wrinkle reduction, add these yummy pro-recommended options to your diet:

Lemon Water
Everyone knows that high water intake is key to overall health and wellness, but adding fresh lemon juice to your bottle helps detox your liver. That means a faster and more fluid burning metabolism, which translates into clearer and brighter skin, Glassman tells StyleList.

Omega 3
"I'm crazy about salmon, flax seeds and chia powder. They have natural anti-inflammatory properties that make your skin glow," says Glassman. While flax seeds need to be ground for your body to absorb the nutrients, chia does not. Both flax and chia are great add-ins to smoothies, puddings and porridges for a nutty flavor.

Healthy Fats
Good fats like those found in avocado, nuts, olive oil, and almond butter help transport vitamins throughout your body. Healthy fats keep your skin hydrated, and they prevent dry skin from exacerbating crow's feet and wrinkles, says Glassman.

Vitamins A and C
Both vitamins are rich antioxidants, which means they fight the environmental aggressors that cause skin to age and wrinkle in the first place. "Vitamin C is great for collagen production, and strawberries are loaded with it. Vitamin A also helps skin repair and renew itself -- you can find it in leafy green veggies like spinach and orange-colored fruits like melon," says Glassman.

Green Tea
The antioxidant-filled leaves of green tea have natural photo-protective properties, which means it strengthens your skin's defense against the harmful, aging rays of the sun, says Glassman. Look for organic versions -- which are nowadays very reasonably priced -- for optimal potency.

Dark Chocolate
Contrary to popular belief, cocoa isn't the culprit behind candy bar-induced breakouts; it's the sugar, milk and other junky fillers that are the real complexion irritants. Pure, organic dark chocolate in a high percentage bar is actually good for your skin in small portions -- the antioxidants help protect protect cells from the process of aging, says Glassman.

There isn't a shred of proof that any of the article's recommendations are anything more than 100% nonsense.

Sorry, Jim... but there is proof that the foods you put into your body does have an effect on your skin and health... you're a fool if you think it doesn't.

if she is the one pictured she needs to find a better regiment for her wrinkles. she does not look so hot, and sure does not make me want to take her advice. and isn't most of this story common sence already? or are people really that uneducated?

In reference to Jim's comment, no it is not nonsense. Certain foods will help the body with vitamins, and vitamins taken internally can help the skin.
As for Tammy, take it from an ex model, food, vitamins, exercise, lots of water, and proper skin care, are the key. Tammy, ( I may be wrong but, she sounds maybe 20's), she is kind of harsh. Tammy, I never use soap on my face, a good cleanser, and a good moisturizer are the keys, during the day, and one with the right sunscreen, at night a good moisturizer. This alone can make you look 10 years younger.
P.S. Collagen as far as I know is a sun screen.

Flax is great for the skin. I started eating fitflaxhttp://www.fitflax.com for weight loss and found that my skin glowedand my nails got harder. Fitflax is low carb/low cal and loaded with omega 3's andantioxidants. It tastes great (kinda nutty) and does not need to beground. It helped me in losing weight (I still have quite a bit moreto go) but flax is incredible for the skin.

Interesting how none of this suggesting eating hamburgers, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, sodas, fries, chips and all that other garbage people routinely eat weekly, if not daily. The overall message is that good food makes a pretty body and bad food makes an ugly body!

Guys,
I believe the lady pictured in the story is not the author. They are just showing someone who has a lot of lines and wrinkles and explaining how she can deminish their appearance by eating right, staying out of the Sun, not smoking , Good skin care etc.. Everything she advice's us on is 100% correct!

This article needs a copy editor. I believe it's supposed to recommend chia SEEDS and GROUND flax, as it says that chia seeds can be absorbed, but flax must be ground. I LOVE both!! :-)

I rub lemon juice from a freshly cut lemon on my face every morning and let it sit for 20 minutes. I've been doing this for years. Consequentially I'm 36 now and everybody thinks i'm 26. People laugh until I tell them my real age.

UGH!!!! As if women don't doenough worrying about weight, now they have us focused on wrinkles. The sad thing is young women are now convinced they're getting old when they're decades away from any such thing. If it ain't cellulite, it must be a wrinkle, a blemish, or a wart. Nobody is perfect and
no body is perfect. But women are told they must be perfect. There are too many things in life besides being a perpetual 24/7 beauty. If you're old enough to have a few wrinkles, that's okay. They belong there.

of course the foods you eat effect how you look, if not we could all eat any thing and still look great and feel great but as we all know when you really over indulge we feel like crap for a week after.
