Judith Leiber Has a Super Sale for Animals

Hosting the kick-off event for the Wildlife Conservation Society's Central Park Zoo Gala, the company decided to offer 100 of their special (and uber-expensive) handbags for $100 each, with all of the proceeds going to the Wildlife Conservation Society.
"I find it really hard to figure out the percentage of sales donations. The bags are very expensive, and it doesn't work," Leiber president Mary Gleason told StyleList. "If I want to donate $10,000, I have to sell between 50 and 100 regular bags and you can't do that in two hours. I don't care how good you are – you can't do it in two hours."
The idea of 100 bags for $100 "raised $10,000 in 45 minutes," Gleason said. "Actually, between 6 and 6:20 p.m., all the good ones were gone."
For the Gala itself, Judith Leiber will be outfitting the charity's committee members in bags fitting the theme "Flights of Fancy." "We've got owls, we've got birds galore, we've got peacocks, we've got everything," Gleason said. "I don't thing there's a species they could come up with that we won't have. "
And on top of all this fun, one young man scored a really good gift for his mother. Gleason recounted the young man saying. "I got my mother a Judith Leiber bag and I'm only paying $100 for it." She added, "The smile on his face ... it doesn't get better than that."
That $100 bag is one component of the reported $1,500 that worth of clothes that women wear per day. Read on.
