It's not just bohemian songstress Crystal Bowersox and judges Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres appearing in full HDTV-ready makeup on the "American Idol" stage.

Turns out the finalist guys, Lee DeWyze and Casey James, are getting their lips primed, eyelashes curled, and a sweep of mascara too!

The Fox reality competition's chief makeup artist, Mezhgan Hussainy, reveals all that and more in her weekly behind-the-scenes "Idol" beauty blog.

Hussainy, an exotic beauty from Afghanistan, is famously engaged to cranky "Idol" judge Simon Cowell (whom she reportedly met cute while powdering his nose on set).

But, she's also an accomplished makeup artist who has been working in television since she was hired to prep handsome actor John O'Hurley for the early 2000s game show "To Tell the Truth."

Among Hussainy's favorite tools of the trade: the foundations from her Me by (Me)zhgan beauty line, Smashbox bronzers, MAC lip conditioners, FACE atelier Ultra powder, and Jane Iredale PureBrow Color.

Here's how Hussainy created the looks for the final three performers when they sang from the Frank Sinatra songbook.

Crystal Bowersox: For a "simple, clean, but glamorous look," Bowersox was primed and prepped with Me by (Me)zhgan primer and foundation. Her cheeks were contoured with a combination of Smashbox Suntan matte bronzing powder and a pale peach blush.

Bowersox's "glitzy glam" eyes were achieved by mixing FACE atelier transformer gel with Jane Iredale's 24-Karat gold shimmer powder. Hussainy then used an eye shadow quad from her Me line to further define Bowersox's eyes.

"The taupe color was used as a contour in the crease of her lid, while the gold color punched up the highlight and really made the eyes pop," says Hussainy.

For the lip, Hussainy took a rich red Foxy gloss from her line and added a touch of gold shadow in the center to "soften, set, and highlight."

Finishing touches included curled eyelashes, a touch of eyeliner, a sweep of black mascara, and a few false eyelashes.

Casey James: After prepping James with Me by (Me)zhgan primer and foundation, Hussainy applied Make Up Forever HD Concealer to his face, dusted it with translucent powder, and applied Laura Mercier Skin Brightening Powder #2 under his eyes to make them pop.

"Finally, with a soft brush we added a touch of Smashbox's Sunkissed bronzer over his entire face and neck to add some warmth and dimension. We curled [his] eyelashes and tipped [them] with just a bit of brown mascara," Hussainy reports.

James's lips were also moisturized with Smashbox lip treatment.

Lee DeWyze: Going for a "nice and natural" look for the low-key performer, Hussainy prepped DeWyze with Me by (Me)zhgan primer and blended two of her signature foundations. Me concealer, in Medium, was used under DeWyze's eyes and the look was set with Me pressed powder in Medium and a dusting of Smashbox's Suntan matte bronzing powder.

DeWyze's eyelashes were curled and his brows set with a clear gel before a coat of MAC lip conditioner was applied as a final touch.
