Here she comes, Mrs. America... Michelle Obama's State Dinner dress is causing quite a stir.
You've got to hand it to
Michelle. Whether you love or hate her style (or are indifferent to it), she manages to step out of the
First Lady boundaries once in a while and really make us take notice. Wednesday's State Dinner was one of those times.
Michelle Obama, queen of the shift dress, went for full-out glam at the White House State Dinner on May 19th.
Never one to shy away from statement looks (or bearing her infamously toned arms), Mrs. O wore a sparkly (yes, we said sparkly) blue gown by New York designer Peter Soronen, whose design house is dedicated to "creating show-stopping demi-couture dresses and gowns." Mission accomplished.
Michelle all but stole the spotlight from the president, captivating onlookers with her one-shoulder gown (cinched at the waist with an even more sparkly silver belt). Not since the American flag itself have we seen something billow so perfectly in the breeze. OK, that may be going too far.
"I really didn't know that she was going to wear it until I got a phone call that someone saw her in it," the excited designer told the
Huffington Post. He added that the one-shoulder look "continues to be a trend."
As for her
hair, we were pleased to see Mrs. O stray from her usual
bobs and
tuck-ups to experiment with a head full of curls -- a glamorous compliment to her gown. Her makeup was on point as well, using the classic combination of smoky eyes (in grays and blues) and nude, shimmery lips.
