Stylist extraordinaire Patricia Field summoned a group of journalists to her loft apartment recently to discuss the "Sex and the City" sequel (for which she served as costume designer) and her new line of charm jewelry for Payless.

Her apartment is stationed next to her Soho store in New York City, and it was clear that the fashion guru felt right at home. She descended the staircase wearing a one-shouldered star bedazzled top and red camouflage pants and had a lit cigarette dangling from her mouth. Two furry poodles - named Puti and Saldana - followed in her wake.

Field created a sparkling four-leaf clover charm necklace encrusted with crystals, which is a replica of a necklace worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in the film. At $12.99, it's a far cry from Carrie Bradshaw's $20,000 piece stunner. The clover is the first in a series of charms that Field is planning to design for Payless.

Holding court in her home, Field answered all of our burning behind-the-scenes questions about the new movie, her role backstage, and her relationship with the uber-famous foursome.

So what is the style process behind the film?
Patricia Field: "I tell my assistants what I want and they get it. I have five assistants and they know me and my style very well. So I get a room full of clothes and I have to sort and edit them. I'll still end up with a hundred choices so I have to keep editing down. Then I give the actress choices. Even if I give her five, I like them all so whatever that actress chooses is okay. The final decision is hers. She is the one that has to sell the character so in the end, I would never say "Over my dead body, you're not wearing that."

Which character did you enjoy styling the most?
PT: "I created the characters. They're all mine. They're my Barbies and I don't have favorites. I have fun with all of them. Recently though, I have had a lot of fun with Miranda because Cynthia Nixon herself has had a transformation that gave me inspiration in creating her character."

What was the style inspiration for the second movie?
PT: "I'm tired of shoulders, balloon hems and crazy shapes. I wanted chic and simple. I was just dying for chicness and American fashion. European style is all about the hustle and bustle, the more fitted pieces and haute couture, while American style is more about simplicity; T-shirts, jeans, sneakers, and cowboy boots."

"Halston immediately came to mind. We were close friends and there is nothing better then giving homage to someone you love. Sarah Jessica Parker liked the idea of using Halston pieces throughout the film so it was a go. I like to wear Halston myself. It's so easy." [Editor's Note: Sarah Jessica Parker the president and chief creative officer of Halston, and has an equity stake in the company.]

Did you have to pay attention to price or anything else when deciding on the wardrobe for the film?
PT: "I didn't pay attention to how much anything cost. For me, it's not so much about price as is the piece. It doesn't take money to have style. I love when there is something gorgeous and you can afford it and this is happening more and more. I don't want to take out a mortgage every time I go shopping. It's all about how you wear it and what you put it with."

You joined with Payless years ago to create the Patricia Field for Payless designer label. What is your relationship with Payless?
PT: "Payless makes a really good quality shoe. It's very acceptable to me. The style is good. They don't look like a cheap copy. I would never sell something I don't believe in. I prefer to be with all people of the world then five with money."

There is an '80s flashback scene in the film. Do you have any 80's fashion regrets?
PT: "I loved the '80s and had absolutely no regrets. It was full of color. That scene in the movie with the '80s flashback was the scene I was most frightened of. You have these 40 and 50 year old women - how do you not make that look ridiculous? They could look like they're dressed for Halloween. It was hard but I think it worked."

How did you like shooting in Morocco?
PT:
"The script was kind of made for me. My father is from Turkey and my mother is from Greece. My childhood was full of belly dancing and my culture is very strong. Shooting in Morocco was a very positive experience. The culture is a blend of North African, French, and Spanish culture. Even though it is a third world country, the people are all very nice, calm and happy and the clothes are all so colorful and beautiful."

"a lit cigarette dangling form her mouth" would make even the most stylish outfit a wreck. Her pictures, especially the leather-like skin around her mouth, make her look like an old bag lady.

Please do not try to glamorize smoking. Smoking kills.

so does obesity. In fact, obesity has been proven worse than smoking. And yet, for whatever reason, people glamourize plus-size models by calling them "real women," while those of us thin women who are healthy are "anorexic." So really, who cares. We all have our vices. Stop judging.

I thought that the fashions in this movie were ATROCIOUS!!!! One of the dresses that Samantha had on made her look like she was headed to an S&M dance!! The only good looking thing about this movie was Chris Noth!!!

Fashions aside, there is NOTHING any makeup artist or stylist can do to improve Sarah Jessica Parker. She is NOT a sex symbol, nor even mildly attractive. She's SO overrated ...YUK!

I just saw the movie and was disappointed in the wardrobe. Some of Sarah Jessica's dresses were okay, but all in all I thought some things too costumy and not very classy. I didn't think the wardrobe or the movie compared at all to the series or the first movie. There was lots of color, however, so that accounted for it not being a bore. I also didn't think Carrie's hair looked very good in the first part of the movie.

I saw the movie this afternoon and I thought it was better than the first one. It was funny and the fashions were true to that group of women. Some, I liked and some I did not but then I am older than all of them. I did not notice any of them smoking as someone on here suggested. ???? But then I don't go to a movie with the idea and looking for every negative thing I can find like some seem to do. I go to be entertained and I don't like to come away feeling depressed with the weight of all the world's troubles on me. I was entertained and it had a feel good ending. I give it a thumbs up.

I THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS AWESOME...I loved Sarah Jessica Parker and i also think she is gorgeous. She's meant to be a sex symbol for all those real women in the world and if she is anything, she definantly is not overrated. Keep doin your thing sarah because your gorgeous

Sarah Jessica Parker... how can you stand in front of your mirror and look at that "beak of the week"? If your nose was filled with quarters, we'd have no national debt! Give Broderick a wish list for your birthady... 1 nose job! I can't believe it... either you like it or can't afford a new one, like an AMC Matador.

JUST SAW THE MOVIE THIS AFTERNOON. I WAS SINCERELY DISAPPOINTED. THE ONLY ACTING WAS DONE BY CYNTHIA NIXON. BUT, THEN, SHE IS A REAL ACTRESS. ALL OF THE WOMEN, FOR THE MOST PART, LOOKED VERY OLD. PLEASE DON'T MAKE A SEX IN THE CITY (3). (2) WAS AWESOME. SARAH JESSICA PARKER SHOULD NOT WEAR HER HAIR PULLED BACK SO SEVERELY. IT IS VERY UNFLATTERING TO HER FACE. IT MAKES HER NOSE APPEAR LARGER. FOR THE MOST PART, THE COSTUMING WAS BEAUTIFUL.

Yeah, I liked the fashion but the lighting on the ladies faces was awful ... SJP looked so haggard and worn in some (well, most) scenes.

Sounds like Billy is the same person as Warren, just justifying his anti-female rantings. I've seen enough of these to bet you $20 he's gay. Not that it's a problem, but he seriously needs some head work to accept himself.

trust me when I tell you....I just saw this movie tonight and it's terrible....the fashions are AWFUL - not a good one in the bunch - in the first movie, the clothes were sophisticated, in this one they are gaudy (esp. a red dress with silver spiked shoulders on Samantha in one scene)..and SJP wears a long ugly brown blazer in another scene - what gives? Stylist Patricia Field must be a wacko (whoever hired her has rocks in their brain)....go see and you'll see I'm right....and BTW - the dialogue seems written by a simpleton.....what a disappointment!!

Maricia you said it all. I went today and happened to think the movie was very funny. Beauty doesn't always make one sexy. Sexy is your inner beauty coming through.
