In addition to commissioning a traveling gnome-style campaign featuring the sleek CFDA Trova award, the powers that be at the Council of Fashion Designers of America have tapped photographer Sølve Sundsbø, stylist Lori Goldstein and creative director Trey Laird to create an artistic photo journal to be handed out at the June 7th CFDA Awards.
The mostly black and white catalog features the three womenswear designer of the year nominees -- Alexander Wang, Donna Karan and Marc Jacobs -- plus, the three designers up for the Swarovski award for emerging talent in womenswear design -- Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra, and Michelle Obama favorite Jason Wu.
In the artsy images, Karan is shown wearing one of her signature jersey and velvet dresses, which she stretches high above her head, Wang is photographed cuddled up with six of his cute female friends, Wu is paired with teenage model Karlie Kloss who stands head and shoulders about the designer and Jacobs is a no-show, instead represented by masks printed with his mug and worn by fur coat-clad models.
The photos of Altuzarra and Gurung are even a little provocative, with the former featuring Altuzarra in down-to-there skinny jeans highlighting his naked hipbones, while he clutches the body of socialite Vanessa Traina. Gurung, on the other hand, is shown on the floor in a muscle tank grabbing the thigh of a model dressed in his garb.
