Bethenny Frankel Drops Baby Weight in Three Weeks - Normal or Drastic?

It's hard to believe that just three weeks ago, "Real Housewife" Bethenny Frankel was busting out of maternity tops, downing pints of ice cream, and complaining about swollen ankles.

In a fraction of a trimester, the queen of the Skinny Girl empire has morphed back into almost pre-baby shape, dropping 29 of the 35 pounds she gained while pregnant with daughter Bryn Hoppy.

Frankel appears in the current issue of Us Weekly, sporting a sexy, size 4 bathing suit and high heels (shown left), claiming that 30-minute walks, scant, mostly vegetarian meals, and breast-feeding have helped her transform her body in an abbreviated three weeks.

This is the same mom who was boasting in tweets about her nocturnal, full-fat ice cream pig-outs before her March wedding to Jason Hoppy (their daughter was born May 8, one month premature).

Sigh. Yet another celebrity mom (hello, Gisele!) making mere mortal mothers feel guilty about their clinging gestational girth.

Still, Peg Moline, editor-in-chief of Fit Pregnancy magazine, suggests that the reality star needs a reality check.

"I worry about the message that sends to the rest of us out here, who aren't invested in that 'Skinny Girl' persona and don't have trainers," Moline told the New York Post.

Moline also tells the newspaper the rapid weight loss also makes her question if Frankel is getting enough rest, eating adequately, and taking care of herself.

Frankel, who has admitted to having a complex relationship with food dating back to her youth, is sticking up for her 122-pound frame. She insists that she is following a doctor-recommended diet and exercise plan, and attributes most of her speedy weight loss to nursing as well as the medically imposed two days of fasting that followed Bryn's Cesarean-section delivery.

Read what the reality star told our sister site, That's Fit, about her speedy weight loss.

And check out other incredible post-baby bodies.

Meanwhile, Frankel's new Bravo reality show, which focuses on the months leading up to her wedding and Bryn's birth, premieres June 10.

Drastic for sure, and maybe even scary hope she is healthy because that's what counts. She looks good though. : )

This is not drastic. Any woman who is health conscious, exercises and eats right can get back into her pre-baby shape in a few months. Getting pregnant is not a license to start being a pig and eating everything in sight, and stop working out. She seems healthier than the women who claim that once you get pregnant you can never be thin again which is a lot of crap. It's an excuse not to take care of yourself.

Uh, I cared. If you don't care about what you look like no one else will. Why not try to look good after having a baby. Unless you have a hard time with multi-functioning. Overweight , and therefore unhealthy moms should stop calling any woman who looks good as having an eating disorder. Its those that munch on chips and cake that have the problem - reality hurts.

The moron is starving her baby if she's nursing; you can't go on a severely restricted diet when you're also supposedly nourishing a child. So this stupid hag chooses vanity over the development of her infant. Why would anyone care what comes flying out of this idiot beyond belief's mouth?

Its how she makes money. She is having her 15 minutes of fame. She looked anorexic during the housewive's. she is a great example for her daughter.

Liposuction!! My money is on lipo. Seems so unhealthy ...physically and mentally to lose 30 pounds in 3 weeks. Do the "stars" have that much pressure on them to be losing 10 pounds a week. This woman admits an issue with food for years and yet they make her a cover girl? Some role model there.

I'd have to disagree based on the fact that it was baby weight. I have not been pregnant yet, but when I've eaten even mildly salty food I retain water quite easily. Even eating the same as I do normally, with a small bowl of salty chips thrown in at desert one night I can see an increase of a full jeans size and several pounds on the scale, but it is gone within 24 hours. I would imagine that a pregnant woman retains a much greater amount of fluids only to have their cells release that fluid after the baby is born, which I would imagine would result in what would seem to be an alarmingly rapid weight loss.

I don't understand the big deal. She was in super shape before she got pregnant. When you are in that kind of shape you bounce right back. I gained 57 lbs when I was pregnant and dropped 35 the first week I was home because it was mostly water weight and 11 lbs of baby. She didn't gain that much weight, so naturally it is going to come right off.

15 pounds of it came off when the baby was born. It's not that hard to lose the rest. I was back in my pre-pregnancy clothing 3 weeks after giving birth to 3 of my 4 children. I did it with only healthy eating, walking and breast feeding. She's also wearing a slim suit like the other poster pointed out. Size 4 is normal IMO. I was back in a size 2.
I don't see how this is such a big deal.

Same here. I gained 25 lbs and a month later lost everything but 3 lbs. Then again, I run, eat right and don't pig out, using the baby as an excuse to be a couch potato.

Same here. I gained 25 lbs while pregnant which my doctor applauded, saying don't go above 30. After the baby I lost everything except 3 lbs within a month. But then again, I didn't pig out and become a coach potato using a baby as an excuse (becaus thats all it is really, an excuse). I run, eat right and don't have a sweet tooth. And I certainly don't have an eating disorder, which is another "dig" thats easy to accuse any woman who's in good shape. Hey....lay off those donuts!

I agree Becca, I had 3 kids within 4 years and was back to wearing my size 2/4 clothes within 3 weeks after each one, and my last baby was almost 9 pounds..for pete's sake, her baby was 4 pounds! Some women's bodies can bounce back easier than other's, I never commented on friend's that took a bit longer, except the one's that have it for more than 2 year's and are still blaming it on the baby.

The woman has a skinny frame to begin with. She looked at 9 months pregnant, how I look at 5 months, C'mon people. Some girls do bounce back w/o the help of lipo or starvation. Its just their body make-ups.

She's naturally thin, and it's her first baby... what's the big scandal? Bethenny looks great. I dropped the weight from my first baby in 6 weeks... all of it. If you are physically active before and during your pregnancy, the weight naturally falls off after. I'm sure she's not still eating ice cream every night. If you are, that's probably why your arse is still fat!
