Bethenny Frankel Drops Baby Weight in Three Weeks - Normal or Drastic?

It's hard to believe that just three weeks ago, "Real Housewife" Bethenny Frankel was busting out of maternity tops, downing pints of ice cream, and complaining about swollen ankles.

In a fraction of a trimester, the queen of the Skinny Girl empire has morphed back into almost pre-baby shape, dropping 29 of the 35 pounds she gained while pregnant with daughter Bryn Hoppy.

Frankel appears in the current issue of Us Weekly, sporting a sexy, size 4 bathing suit and high heels (shown left), claiming that 30-minute walks, scant, mostly vegetarian meals, and breast-feeding have helped her transform her body in an abbreviated three weeks.

This is the same mom who was boasting in tweets about her nocturnal, full-fat ice cream pig-outs before her March wedding to Jason Hoppy (their daughter was born May 8, one month premature).

Sigh. Yet another celebrity mom (hello, Gisele!) making mere mortal mothers feel guilty about their clinging gestational girth.

Still, Peg Moline, editor-in-chief of Fit Pregnancy magazine, suggests that the reality star needs a reality check.

"I worry about the message that sends to the rest of us out here, who aren't invested in that 'Skinny Girl' persona and don't have trainers," Moline told the New York Post.

Moline also tells the newspaper the rapid weight loss also makes her question if Frankel is getting enough rest, eating adequately, and taking care of herself.

Frankel, who has admitted to having a complex relationship with food dating back to her youth, is sticking up for her 122-pound frame. She insists that she is following a doctor-recommended diet and exercise plan, and attributes most of her speedy weight loss to nursing as well as the medically imposed two days of fasting that followed Bryn's Cesarean-section delivery.

Read what the reality star told our sister site, That's Fit, about her speedy weight loss.

And check out other incredible post-baby bodies.

Meanwhile, Frankel's new Bravo reality show, which focuses on the months leading up to her wedding and Bryn's birth, premieres June 10.

The key to getting back the pre-pregnancy body is to be fit before, during, and after the pregnancy. Had my second child at age 34. Worked out a lot with weights and lap swimming for several years beforehand. Gained 22lbs. Ate very well during the pregnancy and afterwords. Breastfed for 3 months during which time I ate a 4000 calorie per day diet and attended water aerobics classes 3-5 times per week. It only took 6 weeks to lose the weight, but a few more months for the girth to disappear. My original weight was 124lbs . My baby was term and weighed 8lbs.7oz. and was very healthy. It can be done. I never had weight or diet issues, just ate and lived in moderation.

Every woman and every pregnancy is different. I gained 15 lbs with my last baby and lost 20 after she was born within 2 weeks. My baby was also a month premature like hers and she was breastfed also. I am a healthy chubby woman who likes to eat, so it is all in how your body handles it. Breastfeeding, watching what you eat and being active definately helps melt the fat. So many ignorant hateful comments. Educate yourself. I can't believe some of the dumb statements coming out of these supposed "moms". If you hate Bethanny, just say you hate her.

She's doing fine!!! I lost 20 lbs beyond my normal weight after giving birth to my firstborn and I wasn't doing anything weird--not even exercising either. Nursing has alot to do with it. Don't bash her--she's doing a good job--vegetarian is a good thing too--doesn't get all that extra fat. Leave her alone.

I don't see the big deal either. I lost the weight for both my children with 2-3 weeks after their births. I ate very health, exercised all during and after my pregnancies. Being pregnant is not an excuse to balloon up. You can be healthy and NOT gain 70lb! 20 years later, I still wear a 2-4. It is a committment you have to make. It doesn't mean starvation or deprivation.

Get over it people!

Believe it or not, some of us don't overindulge our way through our pregnancies, have good genetics and are able to bounce back quickly. I gained 18 lbs total, not through dieting (quite the contrary, as I was on bedrest for the last 14 weeks of pregnancy) but by eating when I was hungry, not pigging out and eating for two (hundred?) and eating healthfully, as I did before I got pregnant. One week after delivery I'd lost all but 5 of the pounds, and by three weeks post I was back into my size 2's. I nursed from day one, and I think that makes a huge difference as well. I still had work to do to make it look pretty, of course, but I looked fine in clothes (and a one piece bathing suit).

Don't profess to know that this woman is barfing her brains out because you didn't bounce back the way she did...we're all different. Geeze! I think it's funny that people are so quick to call her a narcissist because she's looking fab--when for many (but not all) good diet, exercise and less excuse-making is more than half the battle.

She is all about herself and I am not surprise she would starve in order to keep up her "image". She is a drama queen that loves to stir the pot. I am surprised she could hook a good man like Jason. I can't imagine how she has gotten to be a speaker that is suppose to inspire others when she is pure evil. She is my least favorite of all the housewives on Bravo.
She needs to get a grip on life and know that others need to be considered along the way. I can't imagine what kind of Mother she will be. Pity the child!!!

Good for you Bethenny! More people; mothers included, should take notice that you should exercise and follow a healthy diet not only during childbirth, post pregnancy, but throughout your entire life. I want to be healthy for my children, teach them a good example of how to live a healthy lifestyle, and not be too big to run around with them and play. Our society has an eating disorder...it is eating way too much high fat, high sugar, and processes foods! Take a look around at all the overweight and obese people in our society that will develop diabetes and heart disease. I am tired of hearing people say that a size 4 or 6 is too skinny. Choose to stay home and cook healthy foods (try vegetables instead of potatoes, chips, or pasta), try not eating out or fast food 80% of the time, choose to exercise instead of watch tv every night and you too can be a healthy weight for your height and age group. In turn, you can also pass along a valuable lesson to your children. And yes I know what it is like to be 50 pounds+ overweight but I did not want to go down that road anymore and I DID not want to take my children down that road with me. I followed my doctor and nutritionists orders and suggestions; I learned a lot from them so it can be done when you stop making excuses and simply make better choices. Congrats to Bethenny and Jason!

Why is that so drastic, and why do some of you seem to think she has an eating disorder just because she lost her pregnancy weight so quickly? I do not have an eating disorder and after I delivered all 3 of my children dropped back down to a size 5, which was my pre-pregnancy size before having my first child. Surprisingly, breastfeeding does help you lose the weight a little quicker, depending on how often you nurse and for how long. Other factors are at play: your appetite changes and drops a little since you no longer crave all that ice cream and other sweets, any excercise you may do (whether it be a short walk, or just cleaning the house), also having sex burns off a lot of the weight just as quick as nursing will. If a new mother does any or all of these on a regular basis, then chances are she will drop some pounds quicker. That doesn't mean we are unhealthy or have eating disorders. And some women are just naturally small and are lucky to get their pre-pregnancy figure back a lot faster than others and look great.

Are you KIDDING ME. NONE of these morons nurse their babies. Doubt if there would even be enough room for milk glands to develop with those giant implants. They plan deliberate c-sections for pete's sake. Nothing is natural for these women.

I was back to my pre-pregnant weight 6 weeks after my son was born. I didn't starve myself, I ate healthy, got regular exercise, and breastfed my son. She gained 35 lbs, I gained 32 lb. It's not that drastic. She did it faster probably because she follows a vegetarian diet, and maybe has a personal trainer. I don't think she's setting a bad example for anyone. Being a vegetarian is a personal dietary choice she and millions of other people have made because they feel healthier doing so, and breastfeeding her daughter is one of the greatest gifts she can give her.

I have to say she looks GREAT !. And it can be done. I myself weight a big whopping 98 when I got pregant with my first child. I gained 54lbs. 3-4 wks after my son was born, I weighted less than I did before I became pregant. I weighted 92lbs. I did nothing at all, as far as diet or exercise. I did however breats feed. I dont know why women do not understand, that breast feeding is the best way to lose baby weight QUICKLY. I am 44yrs old now. I have 4 grown chiildren and I currently weight 110. I dont have any eating problems. I dont strave myself. I dont exercise to stay small. Some people are meant to be small and some just aren't !. Dont critize her for her weight loss. Dont try to find some reason or fault on her part because you can't lose weight that easily. I agree with alot of the above statments. Instead of trying to come up with ridiculous reasons why shes so skinny. Spend more time trying to figure out why your still fat. There were a few good suggestion above. YOU GO BETHANY !!!!!!

From me; only positive thoughts to Bethenny and her new family.

I lost ALL of my baby weight when I gave birth to my son. I didn't do anything different from what I had previously done. I just happen to have a very fast metabolism. I can eat whatever I want and I never weight more than 113 lbs., and I am 5'8". My mother is quite a bit shorter than I am but she is also naturally thin, as well as all of my aunts and uncles on her side of the family. Some people just process foods differently and this does not make them unhealthy nor does this mean that they have an eating disorder. I am sick and tired of thin people being labeled as unhealthy and such. While some thin women do suffer from eating disorders, so do some thicker women. Some women are naturally heavy and healthy, and some women are naturally very thin and healthy. We need to stop judging one another so harshly!

It's not all that uncommon, after I had my second daughter, I actually weighed less than I did before I was pregnant! It's after the baby is born when you have to watch your weight, at least it was for me. 6 months after the baby was born I started gaining weight, and couldn't get rid of it.

OK, so maybe not the norm for majority of women out there, but after the births of both of my children, I was back to pre-pregnancy weight within the first 2 weeks...No diets and only a light walk around in my neighborhood most days. I went to regular post partum check ups, breast fed both my children and was very healthy. Couldn't there be a slight chance that being this was her first pregnancy, she is naturally petite, she only put on 35 pounds during her pregnancy, and was put on a 2 day fast because of her c section, her body naturally shed the rest of the weight? Again, not the norm, but from personal experience, definitely possible!

WTF, WILL SHE PLEASE OWN THAT SHE HAS AN OVERACTIVE THYROID! Even before she was pregnant I thought that girl looks like someone with an overactive thyroid! She does has some of the signs like her bulging eyes and her hair is VERY thin. In the older shows you could even she her scalp and so now it seems she's doing more to hide it! NATURAL for her maybe just an OVERACTIVE THYROID and it's sad so many women are buying into her BS!

All bodies are different. I was smaller than before I got pregnant one month after delivery and trust me I wasn't dieting or starving myself. I breastfed, took walks, and enjoyed a sometimes not so healthy diet. We all lose/gain our weight differently.
