Mission Makeover: Two Girls Get Some Serious Style

Mission Makeover

Shopping Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, California, Shannon and Devon looked out of place dressed in jeans, T-shirts and worn-in hoodies. And according to our Mission Makeover team, perusing such a chic street requires a little more style and sophistication.

The plan of action: take the twosome from so-so to stylish.

Starting with Shannon, makeup artist and hairstylist Roberta Inez applied a sheer foundation to enhance her complexion. She sparingly applied concealer under her eyes, and then across the lids, using it as an eye shadow base -- a trick several makeup artists use to even the lids prior to applying color.

On her eyes, Inez swept a gold shadow across the lids, and then added a bold, black liner along both lash lines to add depth and dimension. She layered on black mascara to finish.

To give Shannon's face a warm glow, Inez dusted bronzer along the forehead, cheeks and bridge of the nose -- places where the sun naturally hits. Keeping her lips natural, she smoothed on a semi-nude lipgloss.

Using a flat iron, Inez perfected beachy waves for Shannon. Working with one-inch sections, she clamped the iron closed about one inch from the scalp. Next, she turned the iron backwards (toward the scalp) one full turn, and then slowly dragged it through to the ends. The slower you drag the iron through the hair, the tighter the curl. While the faster, the looser the curl.

Mission Makeover

With Devon, Inez took it up a notch.

To even her complexion, she used a tinted moisturizer, which offers sheer coverage and hydration. She blended a rich maroon shadow to create a soft, smoky eye effect, and then applied black eye liner along both lash lines and black mascara.

Inez warmed up Devon's cheeks with a soft pink blush and glazed the lips using a shimmering pale pink lipgloss.

Devon's hair got a slight trim, including the bangs. And because she normally wears is stick straight, Inez opted for voluminous waves. Using a large barrel curling iron and working in two-inch sections, she created beautiful, bouncy waves.

Stylist Jordan Feldman overhauled their kickback style with the perfect party dresses. Shannon's classic black sheath looked sophisticated paired with a chain link necklace and bangles. Devon's slip dress in a rich eggplant looked stunning on her tall, slim figure.

The final result: a dazzling duo.

Um, almost everyone shops in t shirts and jeans on Melrose, unless they're wearin vintage or a sundress (in warmer weather). The "after" pics have them even a bit overdressed for nightime in LA! Hint: it's basically either bare leg or solid tights here, not much of stocking or pantyhose town unless you're a suit downtown---which Melrose is far from.

They definitely looked better before... those dresses are for nighttime and the transparent black stockings are so tacky and 80's--in the bad way!

yech. Shannon does indeed look a little underdressed in the first pic, but she'd be fine with a more form fitting top and no slouchy sweater. Devon looks *awful* with those ringletty curls, which just emphasize her long face, to her disadvantage. Her original hairstyle, up with the fanstyle tail, was incredibly flattering to her.

All this shows me is you Mission Makeover team had a plan for what they were going to show this week, regardless who was being madeover.

I think they looked ok before. I don't think they did anything remarkable by adding curls, black dresses and black hose. These are attractive girls. I liked the spiky ponytail - it was cute and quirky. The long curls and bangs are pretty boring.

I definitely liked the way they looked before. Your mission makeover made them look boring and outdated.

What a waste of time. The makeovers wasted the time of the two girls, who were already looking good. The wasted the time of those who did the makeovers because they didn't accomplish anything positive. A waste of my time beyond the fact that I appreciate looking at pretty girls. Helping only helps when it helps, and in this instance...IT DIDN'T!

No one under the age of 60 wears black stockings. They looked great before; completely appropriate for shopping on Melrose.

"Perusing such a chic street requires a little more style and sophistication"

Sounds like everything you know about LA you learned from watching reruns of the original 90210.

theres that horrendous black dress again. everytime they do a makeover on here they throw someone in a basic ugly black dress that makes them look like they are going to a funeral and those stockings are from a way back when call girl... YUCK.. put some make up on them in the before pics that would be a real make over not that they need it cuz they looked good B4
