Cate Blanchett Debuts Short Pixie Haircut at the 2010 Tony Awards

Starting off the month looking stunning with a sophisticated up-do on the cover "W" magazine, Cate Blanchett stepped onto the red carpet at last night's 2010 Tony Awards with a chic, short and boyish haircut.

Perhaps taking inspiration from numerous other Hollywood hair-mavens -- including Michelle Williams, Hayden Panettiere and Victoria Beckham -- or just looking to escape the summertime heat, the "Robin Hood" star lopped off her shoulder-length locks in exchange for a super short -- and super cute -- cropped pixie 'do.

"Like most working mothers, time is sacred," the mother of three perviously told StyleList. When it comes to her beauty routine, "All I can manage is five minutes in the morning and evening." Her shorter locks are sure to save time.

Last evening, forty-one-year-old Blanchett kept her strawberry blonde hue and brushed her once-wavy strands off to the side, making her eyes sparkle and her face radiate.

And that wasn't all that shined.

Blanchett's shimmering Giorgio Armani Privé silver suit and Van Cleef & Arpels diamonds also caught the eyes of many adoring fans.

Do you like Blanchett's new hairstyle as much as we do? Tell us what you think!

Check out other stars rocking the short and sweet look too!

Michelle Williams looks adorable. Cate Blanchette looks to horsey.

I don't like it. There is no way a boyish haircut will ever look attractive, feminine or pretty on a woman. I'm convinced that long hair is the way to go. I can swoop up my long hair in a pony tail, or twist it into a upsweep -- and when I want to look especially nice, I can set my long hair on hot rollers and have a long soft flip. Long hair is always, always, always prettier and more feminine. (Have you ever heard any man anywhere anytime say he preferred women with short, boyish haircuts?)

I disagree. While most women can't carry off a boy-cut, I have a friend who is absolutely stunning with her short-short cut. I've seen her with long hair, but I have to say her cut brings out the beauty of her face. Sad (yes, I say this with complete envy), but true.

There are plenty of men with shaved heads, braids etc who look horrible, so they have little room to criticize women. For long hair to look good on any woman it should be thick, in great condition and suit her facial features. Many women as they get older don't look good with long hair. They look much younger with a chic, flattering short haircut, Both short and Long hair styles have their pros and cons.

Yes, I have heard men say that they prefer women with short hair. Have you heard of Mia Farrow, Twiggy, Michelle Williams, Halle Berry? I don't hear many men saying they need to grow their hair out.

Once a woman passes a certain age she looks better in short hair especially movie actresses. They have dyed their hair so much that it has fallen out and by the time they reach 50 and beyond long hair looks frightful.

I agree cutie...women "of a certain age"...with very very very few exceptions...tend to look like a bassett hound with the long hair hanging down by their face. Gravity is bad enough, one does not need the effect of long hair making one look older as well. Also with hormonal changes, many women have thinning hair as they age and shorter just makes sense. Never mind that at 56 I can't see well enough to engage the hot rollers or curling iron without hurting myself! Men DO love long hair...no doubt about it...if one is trying to catch a husband, perhaps one should keep their hair long. As one ages, however, husband or no, our priorities shift. Janna, I do not know y our age but I bet you are quite young and think that your opinion will not change....but time and other requirements in the home and work tend to change the priority for long hair unless you don't work or have a family and have nothing better to do with your time than your hair. I remember what that was like and I had fabulous hair...long long ago.

Anyone saying that older women can't carry off long hair hasn't seen Jacklyn Smith lately. I'm in agreement with Janna...gentlemen prefer long hair as a rule.

Yeah, it seems like the womens movement has been forgotten.
Haven't we evolved into more independent thinking, interesting people yet? The short hair looks smart and chic. I think long hanging hair is boring and unimaginative.

Sure, men want women to have long hair. They also want to marry a 16 year old virgin who's had 20 years of sexual experience. Ain't gonna happen. The bottom line is, it's no big deal. I loved my long hair, and wore it waist-length for years, but when I finally got tired of it, I cut it. The point is, it's my choice --- I'll live my life (and style my hair) the way I please. Anyone who thinks it's not "feminine" is entitled to their opinion. I doubt I'll lose any sleep over it.

Why would a woman wear her hair long because men like hair that way? Come on. Be honest. Men like women even if they're bald! Most women worry too much. We dress and wear makeup for compliments from other women. Men don't really care as long as we are clean, attractive and sweet (and have a body they are attracted to).

I cut my waist length hair 5 years ago and I feel liberated with all the free time I have to spend with hubby. He was thrilled too. He no longer has to clean the big glob of hair out of the shower drain pipe out every month, and my 3 feet long hair isn't all over everything in the house and tangled all over the clothing in the dryer.

To Cutie and Sam....you're both ridiculous, making blanket statements like you know what you're talking about. Cutie...yeah, everyone's hair falls out when their over 50, and you're a rocket scientist. That's just moronic. And Sam, you can wear your glasses to style your hair instead of burning yourself with your hot rollers (do people still use those?). Just because you look like a beagle with long hair doesn't mean that everyone else does, too. There are plenty of women over 50 who look just fine with it...in fact, I think as you age, wearing your hair really short is not flattering because it accentuates a not as tight as it used to be jawline and neck. The answer? Wear your hair the way you feel it looks best....and stop making pronouncement and rules for other people.

I hate to be the barer of bad news but, my ex-husband loves, loves, loves women with short hair!! He even talked my then 8 year old daughter in to cut off all of her beautiful hair!!
However, after having super short hair for many years, I finally decided that longer hair is more flattering and grew my hair out. As I age, though, I have discovered that hair past or at my shoulders is the way to go. Hair longer than that just drags the face down, which I don't need any help on, thank you very much!

Cate Blanchette is a lovely lady no matter what she wears or how she cuts her hair, but this particular "do" makes her look like she's in training to portray Peter Pan and gives her a somwhat masculine appearance.

I'm about to turn 61 on Sunday. My hair is just past the middle of my back and getting longer. I'm always getting compliments on the length and how natural the color looks. Yes, I do color it because it would otherwise be sort of a mousey brown. My husband loves it long and short hair on me is just not attractive at all. So, I'm sticking with the long length, although I may eventually shorten it some, but it will never be at or above my shoulders.
