Target Pulls World Cup T-Shirt With Franco Regime Flag
The controversial World Cup T-shirt.
The retail chain has pulled a World Cup T-shirt from its stores and Web site after realizing it bore the flag flown by Spain's late, brutal dictator General Francisco Franco, reports The Consumerist.
(Someone at the buying department is probably getting hauled off to solitary right now.)
Spain has not saluted that tainted banner since the despot Franco died in the late 1970s, ending a reign marked by murder, terror, and human rights violations galore. In other words, nothing for 2010 World Cup soccer fans (or anyone else) to cheer about.
"We certainly apologize for any discomfort or offense this shirt may have caused," a Target spokesman reportedly told the Web site.
No word from the company on how the mix-up occurred, but the retailer did tell the site that the shirts were exclusive to Target but not an in-house brand.
Target is also offering a full refund to anyone who bought the unfortunate shirt, which has been available since May.
Here at StyleList, we're just glad no one's pulling the Liberty of London or Zac Posen for Target collections.

Another case of not following history, doing research and thinking that because you are young you are infallible. Unfortunately, have run into this mind set too many times over the past 14 years, even with company history.
People need to be taught to think and not to jump on whatever their crazy little thoughts maybe.
tsk tsk target.
