Demi Lovato's Breakup Hair: Pop Star Lightens Locks in Wake of Jonas Split

Out with the old and in with the new.

That's the motto of many post-breakup women who not only ditch their man (and all of his accompanying baggage), but also their current hairstyle in exchange for something different, dramatic and flirty, perhaps symbolizing their new-found freedom.

Just look at what Demi Lovato did this week after splitting from touring companion, Joe Jonas. The 17-year-old pop star went from dark, wavy locks to light, sleek strands overnight.

"Fixed some highlights + added more," she tweeted. "I have blonde in my hair!!! Ahhhhh!!!!!"

Even without her prince, Lovato -- who has been edging towards more of a rock-star-look all year -- appears to be living happily ever after. Before heading off to an "exotic location" for a week's vacation, the former Disney starlet added, "I love, love, love my new hair! It's so light!"

Like so many of us, Kate Gosselin, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Kim Kardashian all shed their style when they shed their man. And who can forget Britney's dramatic stunt post Justin?

We call it the "breakover".

Let's just hope Taylor Swift doesn't follow suit.

Why do women with lucious, dark, exotic beauty want to look ordinary? She is so pretty with dark hair...now she looks like everybody else.

I am SOOOO GLAD she lightened her hair. That wierd tan and dark hair DID NOT work for her. She needs to go back to the first season of Sunny look. Dark brown hair and porcelain skin. Extremely gorgeous!

She looks much better with dark hair. The lightened hair is to brassy for her natural skin color and it looks like straw.

My objection is to the misleading link headline. Newly single inplies that the starlet in the article was married and got divorced. Starlet gets new hair after split would have been a more appropriate headline. As for the change, she looked better with dark hair.

Forget the controversy about her hair color. Think about how nice it is to find a young woman who seems to have her head on straight. Not sure how important it is but check out her trip to Chile for the earthquake victims.
