Koh Gen Do to Launch at Barneys in August; Win Your Makeup Trial Kit Here Now!

When Japanese actress Koh Gen Do's long hours shooting film under hot white lights began to take a serious toll on her complexion in the late 80's, she was inspired to create a petroleum-free line of products that skipped out on irritating synthetic colors and fragrances in favor of natural east Asian herbs.
The brand has since expanded to include a full range of color and skincare products, and has crossed the Atlantic by way of Hollywood celebrities and makeup artists alike. (We hear that Katherine Heigl can't get enough of the Aqua and Moisture Foundations.)
Instead of your typical pick-a-shade foundation ritual, Koh Gen Do emphasizes color correction with a primer first. Green diffuses dullness and redness for fair skin tones, yellow brightens deeper skin tones, and pearly white creates "optical smoothing," which blurs the look of imperfections and pores.
The shades can be dabbed and blended on different areas of the face, depending on your complexion's needs.
Once you're prepped, two to three pearl-sized squeezes of foundation are recommended for breathable coverage the brand claims is resilient enough to meet the demands of high definition filming.

My biggest makeup problem in summer is my foundation getting melty when it's really hot out.
