Men's Fashion Week in Milan is off to a somber start after top male model Tom Nicon, 22, was found dead in an apparent suicide.

The French model, who was one of the faces of Burberry and walked the runway for major designers such as YSL, Hugo Boss and Louis Vuitton, fell four floors from an apartment building in Milan, according to the Daily Mail.

The discovery of his body this weekend was mere hours before the fashion festivities kicked off. Nicon had even attended show rehearsal at Versace earlier in the day of his death.

"He was with us on Friday morning for a final fitting," said Donatella Versace. "He seemed fine and calm. He had already done three or four shows with us and he was a sweet boy. We just can't understand why he did what he did. We would never have thought he would do something like this. When we heard the news we were all so upset and we still are all so very sad."

Police investigating the case are treating it as a suicide and told the Daily Mail that his death might have been spurred by romantic troubles.:

"We have spoken to the friends he was staying with and they have told us that he had recently broken up with his girlfriend and was depressed."

Nicon's death is the latest in a string of apparent suicides and suicide attempts by models. Last month, French stunner Noemie Lenoir reportedly overdosed on a mix of drugs and alcohol in France, but was rushed to a hospital and saved. (Lenoir has since returned to work.)

A month before that, male model Ambrose Olsen died in what insiders are calling a suicide by hanging. Late last year top model Daul Kim also allegedly hanged herself in her Paris apartment, and in 2008 Ruslana Korshunova jumped several stories from her New York City balcony in what was determined a suicide.

Nicon's agency in Milan, D'Management, wrote the following on its Web site: "A Tribute to Tom Nicon: A friend to all of us. Always so special, always so brilliant and such a great model and human being."

A tribute during Men's Fashion Week in Milan is also planned.

And we'll never forget when news broke of Alexander McQueen's suicide on day one of last season's New York Fashion Week.

Poor guy. Looks like he needed to eat something. Amazing what starvation will do to your mind.

poor creatures can't eat anything. I blame it on the sick industry of modeling. does not set a good example to kids to look this way. so sad.

I don't feel sorry for any model. They know what they're walking into when they take the job.

I just love the oh so sincere and heartfelt (and really convincing) way the writer ADDED at the bottom, as an apparent after thought (as they just happened to remember or, more likely, were reminded by a staffer) "...and we'll NEVER FORGET when news broke of Alexander McQueens' suicide..."

For those of you writing ugly things, you obviously have no idea how your writings reflect on you. You look/seem so pathetic, small, and miserable; you must be, to write such things after a person has past away. It must really be awfull to be you, I can't imagine being so ugly and horrible; congrats.

For the friends and family of this boy, my heart felt condolences.RIP Tom.

I don't feel it's awful to be me making my comment. I truly am sick of the pills being handed out. I feel sorry for the 3 young girls who just lost their mom due to this. She was 39. I feel bad for the 7 year old boy who can't wake his mom up because she is so whacked out on pills. These are prescription pills prescribed by a doctor that are being abused. It happens in many cases. People need to rely on themselves, take a strong stand, or talk to a good friend or therapist. Life is not easy but you have to be strong. Living on pills is not the answer.

So sad, but why commit suicide over another person...don't get it because "you will eventually get over it". I could possibly understand it if you're dying from a terminal disease...I do feel badly for the people that knew him and for his family.

Interesting...by the way genius, depression and addiction are not choices. Clearly your ignorant stupidity and mean spirit aren't either, because I can't imagine why someone would be such judgmental, mean-spirited ass.

It never ceases to amaze me the hateful comments people post on these pages. I guess it's because they are doing so anonymously so they spew out hateful, nasty comments while they hide behind screen names. How pitiful!!
This unfortunate soul must have felt he had no other choice and so he took his own life. It's miserable being in that position and I wouldn't wish it on anyone! I have been there in my life and it's just by the grace of God that I'm still here today!!
So while I feel empathy for him and his family, I feel nothing but pity for those of you who feel you need to spread your poisonous hate on these posts. It must be awful being so miserable that you try to make others miserable too! Hate is like an acid, it only corrodes the vessel that it's kept in!

Very, very sad...it should open our hearts and eyes to depression and the sometimes God-awful end result...we need to be better at seeing this as it is unfolding in the lives of those we know and love and help! Some of the comments on this story are so uncalled for.

Well, maybe since all of these models are killing themselves they should look into a homicide investigation. It's like the watchmen. Maybe somebody is going around killing costumed models. Where is Rorschach when you need him.

I simply cannot believe some of the comments that I read on aol. People who seize the opportunity of a 23 year old boy's death to voice their homophobia or frustration with their own place in the world should be ashamed.Keep in mind how revealing one is by these nasty comments. Basically trailer park talk by people with nothing going on in their lives

Top Model dies during the beginning of one of the most coveted events of the year??? Sounds suspicious to me......How many other male models would love to take his place? Does the French police know for sure if this is a suicide?

Being so thin has nothing to do with it. I was always bony and my son was so thin until he was around 30. I was 50 before I did not look like a skeleton. We both ate well and ate what we desired. It is a mental problem whether thin or obese.

He had a girlfriend and I resent the trailer park remark. All who live in trailers are not trash.
