Cynthia Rowley Resort 2011 - Runway Review

INSPIRATION: An arts-and-crafts-project approach to fashion
WHO WAS THERE: Anyone who wanted to be. Rowley took her show on the road, pulling a location van up in front of Condé Nast, Hearst, and Time Inc.'s office buildings and let the models mill about on the street. These were the chicest fashion guerillas we've ever seen.
TOP LOOKS: Body-skimming dresses of denim appliquéd onto layers of silk chiffon. A metallic, printed plaid fabric used for an asymmetric dress and skirt. A paillette-encrusted T-shirt.
ACCESSORIES: Very chunky-heeled shoes made of printed leather woven for texture. Socks and hats with paillettes. "The funny thing about the accessories is that's where all the prints are," Rowley told StyleList, "printed shoes, printed socks, printed bags."
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Rowley is on a roll. Having just returned from launching her line with Roxy in Milan, she also just launched her bridesmaid collection and opened a shop in Montauk. The designer created a concise and wearable collection for the resort/holiday season.
"It's just what my new ideas are," she said, adding that her pieces can be worn either at a resort or for a holiday party. "Metallics can be for evening or beach-y and the paillette T-shirt can be beach-y or dressy."
