One thing fans of ABC's "The Bachelor" have learned after 14 installments: Whopper Neil Lane engagement rings and designer dresses don't always make for fairy-tale endings. At least not "till-death-do-us-part" ones.

A rep for "The Bachelor" star Jake Pavelka and his fiancée, Vienna Girardi, confirmed today that the pair have split. The couple's spokesperson, Janice Lee, broke the news to People magazine and asked the public to respect the pair's privacy.

No reason was given for why the hunky pilot, aspiring actor, and recent "Dancing With the Stars" contestant parted with his chosen one, a surgically enhanced former Hooters waitress. However, Pavelka told TMZ photographers, "I'm saddened by this whole thing. Sometimes love just isn't enough in a relationship."

Pavelka added that he still speaks to Gerardi. "No matter what happens," he told TMZ, "Vienna and I will remain friends."

Girardi was tabloid fodder throughout the 2009 "Bachelor" season, and her choice as Pavelka's "final rose" recipient was one of the most controversial in the show's history. Still, the couple seemed completely smitten.

Seems like just yesterday StyleList was getting the dish on the teal, one-shoulder Carmen Marc Valvo gown Girardi wore for her proposal rendezvous with Pavelka on the island of St. Lucia, where they fell in love.

Pavelka is currently in Atlanta shooting a guest spot as a reality-dating-show star on Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva." Girardi, who took on a variety of hosting roles for entertainment news shows during Pavelka's "DWTS" run, is in Los Angeles, and according to Us Weekly, is still sporting the $50,000 3-carat, princess-cut Neil Lane diamond Pavelka carefully chose during a private consultation with the celebrity jeweler.

This parting leaves the number of actual weddings resulting from the reality franchise's pairings at a dismal two.

The first "Bachelorette," Trista Rehn, and her husband, Ryan Sutter, were married in a lavish pink-themed ceremony in 2003.

And earlier this year former "Bachelor" Jason Mesnick married Molly Malaney, his season 13 runner-up, in a televised California ceremony noteworthy for its high-end product placement of designer gowns, shoes, and more Neil Lane jewels.

Pavelka's announcement comes as rumors swirl that this season's stunning "Bachelorette," Ali Fedotowsky, may have ended her reality run by choosing no one as her future mate.

Fedotowsky was one of Pavelka's favorite girlfriends on his season, but she tearfully left him to return to her job at Facebook (a position she has since quit).

Maybe they can reconnect.
