I Declare Independence From... Styling My Hair!

In anticipation of Independence Day, we asked fashionable folks what style hangup they'd like to declare independence from this July 4th, and solicited expert advice to help them kick the habit.

"I want independence from styling my hair!" - Maggie Gyllenhaal

Lucky for Gyllenhaal, her personal stylist Mark Townsend is an expert when it comes to helping women cut corners on their styling routine.

"For easy, style-free hair, it's important to know and accept your hair's natural texture and get a haircut that will work with that texture. I really took that into consideration when I cut Maggie's hair," Townsend tells StyleList.

Since you ideally want to skip heat tools like blow dryers and curling irons, the styling products you put in your hair are super important.

"If you have a wave in your hair like Maggie, I like to put Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream in damp hair and let it dry naturally. If your hair has a tendency to get frizzy, I'm obsessed with Dove Frizz Control Taming Cream. You can put a few drops in your hair and let it air dry and your hair will not get frizzy, even in extreme humidity. It won't weigh your hair down or get greasy looking," advises Townsend.

"Another of my favorite tricks is to spray John Masters Organics Sea Mist in damp hair and air dry. This will give the hair a beachy look with great texture," says Townsend.

And if you want a super easy hair style option, Townsend recommends a low nape-of-the-neck pony with a deep side part to spruce it up a touch.

Sounds easy enough for us mere mortals who don't have a Hollywood stylist on speed dial.

Maggie isn't exactly ugly. She is however, homely. A plain Jane who required a ton of makeup to make her presentable on screen. Same goes for that brother of hers. An worst yet, is that neither of them can act, even if their lives were at stake! Ever seen "The Secretary" or "Bubble Boy"? Case closed...

Wow, she couldn't think of anything else to say to get some press? She'll save a lot of money on hairstyling that might afford her some better PR people.

You know, this is pretty pathetic. Why do the powers that be at AOL think that anyone gives a rats *&% about crap like this?

You say you don't care, but you read the story anyway & you took the time and trouble to post a comment about it.

Actually, Gubu, I don't care and I didn't read the story. I just saw the "headline". There is all this crap published about actors, their looks, their hair, their shoes, and OMG, their bathing suits! Sound the alarm! This BS is constantly being thrown at us. For what? Really. Do you honestly care about her hair and that she doesn't want to style it anymore? Please. Don't you think that our minds and our paid for cyber space would be better served by stories that are informative and/or educational.

Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly is to the bone. She's tired of styling her hair? Do worry about it, just wear a paper bag. Her and her brother have the look of puppets that came to life, quite frightening. They do know how to play the Hollywood game, hook up with a superior actor until a job appears.
