Summer 2010 Trend: Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits - a groovy byproduct of the '70s - have continued their resurgence for summer, and fortunately for all of us who adhere to seasonless dressing, will also take us into fall.

Though this trend tends to skew a bit younger, there are plenty of options for a variety of personality types and social situations. These cool utilitarian one-pieces have been produced by everyone from Givenchy to J.Crew, Stella McCartney to Cynthia Rowley.

To wit, for the weekend or a daytime outing, try a silky black number with a tie waist and ruffle detail a la Richard Chai Love (far right). There are office appropriate jumpers too, courtesy of designers like Rachel Roy (center), who created a suit-like version. For evening, trade in your L.B.D. for a L.B.J. with a devastatingly chic tuxedo-inspired one-piece, Lanvin's Alber Elbaz created the perfect prototype.

Tall women will have no problem making these garments look good. If you border on the petite side, don't fret. Just make sure that you've found a jumpsuit that will show some skin so as not to overwhelm the body in fabric. Make like Michelle Obama and show off your arms, cuff the pants (or opt for a cropped pair), and throw on a pair of heels to add some height.

Depending on how formal or casual you are intending to be, think high heels for dressier scenarios, wedges for more casual environments, and flats when it's too hot to deal with anything else. Jewelry options are endless, but we like the idea of harkening back to the jumpsuits heyday a la Halston and piling on the chain necklaces or a sturdy stack of cuffs.

Being short and a bit chunky, I love jumpsuits (except when going to the bathroom!?). I like the one piece/one color to make me look taller and thinner. And,no deciding what top to wear with what bottoms. I hope they stay in style for a long time!! I've loved them in the past when they've been IN.

Jumpsuits are impossible when you need to use the toilet. I own one from the 1980s, and I wear it for weeding my garden.

NO. 1 PROBLEM WITH JUMPSUITS IS WHEN YOU HAVE TO USE THE RESTROOM.

The bodies of ALL of the models are great. The only model that has a WAY TOO THIN face, and pretty ugly is the model on the left (but SHE HAS A FINE body) The Jumpsuits look SEXY but from the comments it is OBVIOUS that the only place to wear one is on a catwalk, at home where you can take it off before going to the bathroom or if you are a streetwalker (again the stripping part) Again these jumpsuits are SEXY and fortunately all the designers need do is seperate the top from the bottom to make beautiful outfits that can actually be worn
