Thank you Kristen Stewart for ditching your dark, vampire-ess hairstyles that were often too harsh, too punk or just too reminiscent of the teenage grunge era.

Yesterday, the "Twilight Saga" star revealed a lighter -- and can we say, much more feminine -- look when she appeared on the "Late Show With David Letterman".

Later that evening, Stewart switched to soft braids. Photo: Getty Images

Stewart switched out her dark brown roots for a softer, auburn hue, which was the brainchild of her hair stylist, Adir Abergel and celebrity colorist Marie Robinson.

"Kristen and I decided to take her color back to a color closer to her roots for the new movie she is filming, 'On The Road,' Abergel told StyleList. "Stewart is a natural blonde, and her strawberry blonde hair accentuates the color in her eyes, and really softens her look."

Abergel says he encouraged Stewart to return to her natural roots with inspirational images of 50s-era, copper-coiffed starlets like Bridget Bardot and Rita Hayworth. To get the shade yourself, he suggests Fekkai Salon Color 6R in Copper-Lucy.

Stewart rocked this new style with loose, casual waves that gave her a gorgeous red carpet-ready look. Yet, the 20-year-old actress was still able to retain a certain amount of edginess -- a part of her look she loves.

"People think I'm trying to be rebellious, but that's the last thing I'm doing," Stewart told Harper's Bazaar in an earlier interview when she explained that her rock and roll image is not an act.

Feminine with attitude. The perfect mix.

Meanwhile, this carefree new 'do probably still means that Stewart's on-screen and reported off-screen beau, Robert Pattinson, will continue spending more time on his hair than she spends on hers.

Tell us what you think! Do you love Kristen's new look?

I think it's a very pretty color for her. However I do think it makes her appear older than the darker shade. But pretty!

The reddish hair and loose the black rims under the eyes (as in the dark hair picture), and she would be a beautiful girl.

Old look is much better on her. New look is kind of skanky.

She looked nice in her brunette color. I have never seen one person that had their hair colored black or the color red that didn't look terrible. They just aren't colors you can fake and look good. Most blondes are washed out looking ( blonde color also means there is a pigmentation missing ) but brunettes usually have a very healthy look about them and brunette has always been the sexier color anyway.

Yes, the auburn looks much better on her but it's her make-up that makes her look so much older (harsher), not the hair. And I agree - she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. I don't understand all the hype about anyone in the Twilight saga anyway. I've seen a few of them on various talk shows and am so not impressed! Some of the guys look like they wear even more make-up than their female counterparts - and they obviously use much more hair product! LOL

I think she looks good. Although I have not seen one of the Twilight movies (too young for me I guess!) I remember her from "Panic Room" and thought what a cute "tomboy". Anyway, she is really a pretty girl.

Love the new red hair. She doesn't look so washed out and plain. It really compliments her skin tone.

Ugly? Are you nuts? She's anything but ugly. I liked her dark hair look and I like this look too. She can pull off any look and do it right...ask Joan Jett.
