In what is probably the most challenging role of her career thus far, Katie Holmes has taken on portraying American royalty and style icon Jackie O in the upcoming History Channel miniseries "The Kennedys." And judging by photos of Holmes in costume as the former first lady, the ex-"Dawson's Creek" actress was born to play the part.

Wearing Kennedy's signature brunette bubble cut, a robin's-egg blue shift dress with a rhinestone circle brooch, and a strand of pearls draped elegantly around her neck, the 31-year-old Mrs. Tom Cruise was the spitting image of President John F. Kennedy's glamorous wife.

The Holmes & Yang designer, who also sported a prosthetic baby bump, was photographed on the movie's Cobourg, Canada, set, where she was seen laughing and chatting on her cell phone between takes.

"The Kennedys," set to air in 2011, traces the family's political dynasty from the early years of JFK's presidency up to his 1963 assassination in Dallas, reports the Daily Mail.

Greg Kinnear portrays JFK in the film and was also seen on the set looking dapper in gray pleated pants, a white shirt and dark tie, and his hair styled in the former President's famous side-sweep.

In related news, Naomi Watts is playing Marilyn Monroe in a big-screen movie that depicts the sex symbol's relationship with JFK.
