Denim has come back in a big way this summer, from comfy cottons by weekend to skinnies by night and tailored jean blazers for a dressed-up look.

We're even wearing, gasp, denim on denim.

But with so much blue in our outfits, should we be taking a different approach to our makeup?

"Denim looks great on everyone," makeup guru Bobbi Brown tells StyleList. "When it comes to your makeup, I like to pair jeans with a dark denim eye. While blue eye shadow can sound scary, the trick is to find the right shades that will keep your makeup looking modern and put-together."

"Inky blue colors look great on almost all women and won't leave you looking dated," she adds.

Denim can run the gamut from almost-white lights to the deepest of midnight blues, and you should slightly adjust your makeup for each shade.

For casual, lighter denim washes, Brown suggests a gray-blue eye shadow to keep your makeup soft. "It will add definition without being too overpowering," she advises. To prevent looking washed-out, be sure to apply a rosy pink blush to your cheeks.

For medium washes, go with a bold, lined eye. "Try a dark blue eyeliner like Bobbi Brown Denim Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, which is dark enough to define the eye and has enough blue to give your eyes and instant lift," says Brown.

Dark rinse jeans look especially sexy with a blue smoky eye, and adding a little sparkle will dress up your look even more. Opt for a navy blue eye shadow infused with fine glitter, which will help enhance your eye color. And, to really kick your look up a notch, be liberal with your fringe. "Make sure to apply at least two to three coats of mascara," says Brown.

Now, if the thought of blending blue eyeshadow has you fearing Mimi-meltdown, Brown suggests a 'light version' of the denim eye look. Apply the neutral, bone shadow all over the lid from lash line to brow. Next, sweep a gray-ed blush shade, like Bobbi Brown Gray Denim Shadow, from lash line to crease, before lining the upper lid with ink blue liner and brushing on two coats of mascara.

For a look that parallels the gorgeous look of the "Denim & Rose" model, pictured above, start with the above base. Then add Bobbi Brown Denim Sparkle Eye Shadow and three coats of Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara in Denim. On the apples of the cheeks, brush on Pink Rose Blush, with particular attention paid to blending well. Finish with Bobbi Brown Indie Creamy Lip Color topped with Bobbi Brown Hot Rose Lip Gloss.

A word of warning for mature skins: you'll want to keep any shimmer you use limited to no more than two areas of the face so as to look fresh, not overpowered.

And if you're anything like us, sometimes you just want to throw on those jeans and go -- and have no time for artful eye makeup blending. In those situations, a quick pop of color on the lips can enliven a whole face. Brown says that a rosy pink shade, like Bobbi Brown Raspberry Shimmer Lip Gloss, looks amazing when paired with denim.

"The combination is casual and put-together, rock 'n roll but romantic, and modern yet classic all at once," says Brown of the makeup-with-denim trend.
