You wouldn't know it from looking at her photos in the July issue of ASOS magazine, but Ashley Greene once suffered from low self-esteem.

Inside the monthly glossy, the sexy star of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" reveals that she was so insecure as a young teen that her mom signed her up for modeling classes. That led to acting classes and a confidence that comes through in the fashion feature shot by photographer Victor Demarchelier.

Greene, who plays vampire Alice Cullen in the wildly popular "Twilight" movie series, is seen glamming it up on the magazine's pages in a variety of chic ensembles, including a Louise Amstrup graphic-print dress with ASOS boyfriend belt, CC Skye bracelets, and ASOS Halle denim strapped sandals; a black ASOS elastic strapping top with creme Illionaire On the Air high-waist trousers, and Sam Edelman Zoyla wedge ankle boots; and a Chloe cotton playsuit with a Vena Cava leather gilet.

"I love fashion. But I like to do things in moderation," says the 23-year-old Florida native, who was interviewed at NYC's Barneys CO-OP, where she snapped up a mint green Acne tank, Marc by Marc Jacobs leaf-print skirt, Cecilia de Bucourt obi sash, and a black Helmut Lang dress.

"I don't like that trashy look. So if I'm wearing a short skirt and heels, I'll cover up on top. I know what works for me too."

Indeed, Greene was a front-row fixture at the Milan fashion shows and even received the Style Icon honor at the Young Hollywood Awards.

Among her own fashion idols? Audrey Hepburn.

"Her style was amazing. Classy, beautiful, elegant. I love that black tights, flats, and a simple top would look so great on her. And Gwyneth Paltrow... She's sexy, but she's classy, and I think that's a hard thing for women to achieve a lot of the time in Hollywood."

Though she works with stylist Cristina Ehrlich -- who also dressed Nicole Richie post-Rachel Zoe -- "I'm not just this Barbie doll," says Greene.

"She will pull amazing clothes, but I can go in and still have my sense of self and sense of style."

In fact, Greene -- the new face of Avon's Mark -- sets her own style rules.

"My day wardrobe, nine times out of 10, is very comfortable. It's billowy shirts or very sheer tops, flats or wedges. I love Rag & Bone, and Opening Ceremony is cute," she explains.

"Then at night, it's darker colors, a little bit sexier, a little bit edgier, and I'll wear heels. The makeup changes too. During the day, it's concealer, eyeliner, mascara. If you really go natural during the day, you can transform into this alter ego at night."

Hmm... not unlike a vampire!
