We always knew Nicolas Ghesquière was a superstar.

Now, the Fashion Group International is honoring the Balenciaga designer with its Superstar Award at the Oct. 28 Night of Stars event in New York City.

"He has the most intriguing history," FGI president Margaret Hayes tells StyleList.

"He's very successfully reinvented the Balenciaga brand and introduced a whole new vibe to the public. And the brand continues to grow. We think it's his time."

The evening's theme is "The Globalists," and there will be another ten or so honorees coming from beauty, architecture, and other industries, which Hayes says will be announced next week.

"We think of this event as not just a fashion event," she explains, "but a full design event with more than Superstar and Humanitarian awards."

Night of Stars will take place at Cipriani on Wall Street, with Simon Doonan hosting. Ruben Toledo will create the artwork for the awards.
