Short hairstyles get the shaft when it comes to warm weather styling. Ponytails, buns, braids -- why should long-haired girls get all the easy summer 'dos.

So, on behalf of every pixie-, crop- and bob-cut lady out there, we consulted with senior stylist, Ray Symons, at the Oscar Blandi Salon in New York for the coolest ways to style your short hair during these hot, humid months.

SHORT HAIRSTYLE: BEACHY WAVES
WHY IT'S COOL: Soft waves give a natural, carefree vibe. Plus, a nice summer breeze only makes it look better.
GET THE LOOK:
-- Apply a small amount of curling serum to your hair, working up to one inch from your roots
-- Do not brush hair
-- Scrunch dry with a diffuser attachment on your dryer
-- Wind the curls around a curling iron to hide any excess frizz.
-- Flip your head upside down to give an extra boost to your roots
-- Finish with a medium-hold hairspray to set the look

SHORT HAIRSTYLE: SUPER STRAIGHT
WHY IT'S COOL: Smooth, sleek hair is always in style. And it looks even better if you can pull it off flawlessly in the hot summer.
GET THE LOOK:
-- Towel-dry hair
-- Apply a strong humidity-fighting gel or gloss to resist humidity and keep your blow-dry in place and frizz-free
-- Divide hair into sections and blow-dry hair straight with a large, round brush starting with the front pieces and working your way back
-- After hair is smooth, go over it with a flat-iron in large sections throughout the entire head
-- Finish the look with medium hairspray for hold and shine

SHORT HAIRSTYLE: WASH AND WEAR
WHY IT'S COOL: Prevents you from turning on that hot blow-dryer! Plus, it's great at the beach or the pool.
GET THE LOOK:
-- Gently towel dry hair
-- Working from the bottom up, evenly distribute a leave-in glossing cream or gel
-- Comb hair straight back for a sleek look or lightly tousle hair with your fingertips for a more natural look
-- Allow hair to air-dry and don't comb or brush when it's dry

SHORT HAIRSTYLE: CAREFREE WAVES
WHY IT'S COOL: Pin curls are the easiest and best way to create a hassle free look with natural waves and lots of body.
GET THE LOOK:
--
Towel dry the hair and use a gel spray all over
-- Divide hair into five sections
-- Wrap each sections around your finger and secure it with a pin (think big curlers without the tools)
-- Let hair completely dry – either air-dry or use a diffuser
-- Take the pins out and use your fingers to massage your hair at the roots

SHORT HAIRSTYLE: ACCESSORIZED
WHY IT'S COOL: Colorful, chic headbands and silk scarfs are always in style!
GET THE LOOK:
-- Starting with dry hair, tease the roots at the crown to create fullness
-- Use a thin, narrow headband or silk scarf to slick the hair off the face
-- Tuck the ends of your hair behind your ears or in a small ponytail
